In my 30s, at a late age, I wanted to correct what had bothered me my whole life: an underbite + uneven teeth, so I found a doctor in Korea who is fairly well known as a leading figure in underbite orthodontic correction and underwent orthodontic treatment for the past 2 years. (I am male)
It was done as non-extraction orthodontic treatment, and the cost was 8.9 million KRW. People around me say my facial line has improved a lot and that my face has become much smaller, so I am fairly satisfied.
The one thing I’m disappointed about is that the protrusion of my teeth can’t be corrected any further. After I went on a rapid diet, my front cheeks became hollow, and because my midface looks sunken, it feels like my mouth protrudes more forward. So when I smile or take photos, I feel even less confident.
The dental director’s suggestions are as follows: Option 1) Extract 4 teeth and do 1 more year of orthodontic treatment *additional cost 200,000 KRW - In this case, it could be better aesthetically, but the periodontal tissue could become unstable, so I may struggle with it later as I get older
Option 2) Consider cosmetic surgery such as paranasal augmentation (director’s recommendation) - Since it is because the midface looks sunken, stop orthodontic treatment and create a more three-dimensional face through paranasal augmentation or rhinoplasty
If anyone has had a similar case to mine, I would really appreciate your advice.
If I followed my heart, since the purpose is mostly aesthetic, I’m thinking about doing Option 1, but I’m curious whether it would really be very risky
