5-year review of phakic IOL surgery

It's already been 5 years. Because I had high myopia, I got tested at several hospitals for LASIK and LASEK. The factory-style clinics said I could do it, but at a hospital known as an authority in this field they said my risk of side effects was higher than other people's. In the end, after a lot of comparison, I chose a place that also does a lot of cataract and presbyopia surgery, and decided on Seran Eye Clinic. They said my eye had a lot of endothelial cells and a large anterior chamber, so it was actually a good condition for phakic IOL surgery. They only do one eye per day, so I had the left eye on Thursday and the right eye on Friday. After the surgery during the day, when they removed the eye patch in the evening, that eye could see clearly right away, which was amazing. I think the left eye took 10 minutes and the right eye took 5 minutes. I got onto the operating table, they put in eye drops and sprayed something like water into my eyes, and I watched them do the procedure while awake with my eyes open. I could not see well, but it was bearable. Nobody knew I had surgery, but everyone kept tilting their heads and saying I looked prettier, which was fun. Just losing the way high myopia made my eyes look smaller gave me an appearance boost, so I even started getting blind dates. And because the surgery was in March, it was cherry blossom season, and I remember being amazed that every petal looked so clean and beautiful. The most important thing is the endothelial cell count. I absolutely do not rub my eyes or sleep face down. I get checked every year, and until last year both eyes were still around 3,000 cells each, with little change. But this year, while getting checked at another eye clinic, one eye had dropped to 2,900 cells, so I was wondering what that meant. I'll check again when I go to Seran Eye Clinic for a checkup at the end of this year. Anyway, I recommend phakic IOL surgery. I don't regret the cost at all.
