Hello, I had double-jaw surgery with Dr. Shin Hee-jin at IYU Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, and I'm now past the 10-month mark, so I'm leaving a review! First of all, since high school I had a misaligned jaw and malocclusion, so every time I took a photo I covered my mouth, and whenever friends mentioned it I became unnecessarily self-conscious, which really hurt my confidence. But with a job search ahead, I decided to have surgery because I wanted my job-hunting photo to look pretty and confident!
I live in a provincial area, so there weren't many options locally, and I visited several hospitals in Seoul for consultations. Among them, IYU Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery was the most kind and detailed in their explanations, and they calmly made a surgical plan tailored to my condition. That gave me the confidence that this was a place I could trust, so I went ahead with the surgery!!!
Since it's the end and beginning of the year, I was organizing old photos for the first time in a while and was really startled when I saw my former self haha. I had gained a fair amount of weight, and there were especially many photos where I covered my mouth because of the malocclusion. When I read other double-jaw surgery reviews, people often say they wish they had had surgery earlier, and looking at my past photos I did sometimes think that too. But I also feel that means my current satisfaction is that much higher, so I actually think I made a good choice!!
And somehow it's already been 10 months, and the fact that the year has already changed and the day has come for me to write this review still feels unreal haha. Before my surgery, I used to look at people writing 10-month reviews and think, wow, they've already had surgery and that much time has passed. I was really envious. But now that I'm at that stage myself, it feels very strange and rewarding haha. For reference, I also started dieting after the 7-month mark, and once I lost weight, the residual swelling naturally went down too. So when I take selfies these days, it feels like this is completely my face now!! haha
If I had to name the hardest part lately, it would be orthodontics, but even that is the final stage. They told me that after switching to the final wire, I should be able to remove the appliance about a month and a half later, so orthodontic treatment is expected to finish around March! It feels even more meaningful because it will end almost exactly with my surgery anniversary, and I'm looking forward to the day when everything is finished and I can smile more brightly. haha
For anyone considering double-jaw surgery, especially if you have long been stressed by malocclusion or your facial shape, you may worry that the recovery process will be hard. But I really want to say that as time passes, it settles naturally and the changes as you return to daily life are definitely noticeable, so I don't think you need to be too afraid. For me, this has become a choice that leaves me with even greater satisfaction now, and I want to thank IYU and Dr. Shin Hee-jin while also recommending them to prospective patients!
