I had always been bothered by facial asymmetry since I was young. Every time I took a photo or looked in the mirror, it felt subtly annoying, and I spent quite a long time wondering whether I should have surgery or not. But strangely enough, this year I suddenly felt that now was the time, with no particular reason, and with the mindset of not putting it off any longer and trying it, I decided to go ahead with surgery!
While looking into double jaw surgery and searching mainly for oral and maxillofacial surgery clinics, one clinic stood out the most, so I went in for a consultation. I had consultations at two places in total, and among them, the consultation process here was more systematic and easier to understand, and I was also satisfied with the overall atmosphere and facilities, so I ultimately decided on this place.
The day of surgery went by faster than I expected. When I opened my eyes after anesthesia, it felt as if everything was already finished, and I stayed at the hospital focusing on recovery and resting. As time passed, I could feel my body gradually stabilizing too, and I could feel myself recovering day by day!
During the first week, I focused on resting enough and was in the stage of adjusting to the changes in my body. I spent the time without overdoing anything and only paying attention to recovery, and I remember it passing surprisingly calmly.
In the second week, the stitches were removed and I was instructed on how to wear the elastic bands. It felt like things were being carried out step by step according to the recovery stage, and I followed the hospital's instructions well and took care of myself!
From the third week, my overall condition gradually became more stable, and I was able to continue daily life naturally. It was a period when I noticed the changes more in photos than in the mirror, and as time passed, I felt that my face was becoming more organized.
From months 1 to 2, I could feel the sensation around my mouth slowly returning, and overall recovery was progressing noticeably. I sometimes felt a little tightness in the morning, but it never affected daily life at all!
From month 3 onward, I was able to live almost the same way as before surgery. Because I was living without any special discomfort, at some point I found myself naturally adjusting to daily life rather than worrying about recovery.
And now it has been 7 months. In the early stage after surgery, the parts that had worried me gradually became easier on my mind as time passed, and before I knew it, 7 months had already gone by as I kept thinking that things would settle into place somehow. Since I had already been told at the consultation stage that perfect symmetry would be difficult, I am overall satisfied with how I look now!
Eating is possible in most cases, and daily life is no different from before surgery. Looking back, because I had so many worries before deciding on surgery, I now feel positively about that choice. I plan to keep watching the remaining recovery process slowly and continue taking care of it!
