1. Why I decided to have surgery I had always been quite bothered by facial asymmetry, and over time it got even more stressful. I also had temporomandibular joint problems, so it was hard to open and close my mouth, and I often heard cracking sounds from the bones. I also had a slight underbite, so I kept thinking I wanted to improve both the functional and aesthetic aspects, and after a lot of deliberation I decided to undergo double jaw surgery. 2. Recovery process and changes Recovery after surgery went fairly well, but I still feel like the sensation below my chin hasn't fully returned. I was told it might improve more with time, so I'm watching it for now. Personally, I also feel like my lower jaw has started to stick out a little again compared with before. As for the TMJ, unlike what I hoped, I still hear bone cracking on the left side, so I'm currently visiting an oral and maxillofacial surgery clinic and monitoring the progress. Also, my philtrum seems longer after surgery, so I'm looking into philtrum reduction too. 3. Satisfaction with the changes and my thoughts There are definitely advantages after the surgery, but there are also changes I didn't expect and parts I'm still disappointed about. Some parts I'm satisfied with, but things like nerve recovery, the TMJ, and the philtrum changes are still on my mind, so my feelings are mixed. In the end, I realized that double jaw surgery is something you have to think about carefully and decide only after enough consideration about whether it's the right choice for you. I've experienced both the pros and cons, so I hope anyone considering surgery will also think through not just the results they expect, but also the changes that could happen.
