Nose Surgery Reviews

I thought my nose revision would be my last, so I used autologous costal cartilage

I really agonized over it, but I went ahead with the revision surgery thinking it would be my last try. Even when I had my first nose surgery and the revision before, I always thought, maybe it'll be better than it is now, maybe it'll look more natural than it does now, and that was why I had the surgery. But because I failed so often, I got really discouraged, and the fact that it looked so much like a chalk nose to anyone who saw it was incredibly stressful. I had surgery to improve it, but it felt like everyone around me was only looking at my nose... I don't know whether that had an effect, but strangely, my own self-esteem about my appearance also dropped, so when I had interviews or met new people, I kept becoming more passive and felt like I was only staring at my nose, which was mentally draining haha. I didn't have issues like contracture or inflammation, but even in daily life I was already this tense and on edge, so I thought that alone was a major issue, which made revision surgery almost inevitable. Since it was a revision, I went around to consult at several places, and most recommended autologous costal cartilage. Some said confidently that they could do it well, but others honestly told me it probably wouldn't improve that much compared with now, so at first I was really confused. What stressed me out most was that the bridge looked so chalk-like, and some places even suggested raising the silicone and tip higher... While I was going around for revision-consultations, I spent a lot on consultation fees and had a lot of moments of emotional exhaustion looking at my CT scans haha. Still, after visiting more than six places, I found a place where I felt like I could go ahead. They recommended the same autologous costal cartilage plan, but suggested putting in 2 mm of silicone, and the director recommended inserting it at a low height, saying that leaving it out completely could leave a step-off after shaving down the hump and the side bone of the bridge. This place also explained the surgery method in the most realistic way, and there were parts of the reviews I liked too, so I went ahead with the revision revision surgery. It wasn't my first surgery either, but recovery was still hard because of the splint haha. I had the surgery in the summer last year, and it was so hot that I couldn't even go for walks much, but compared with that, I think recovery went fairly quickly. Other than the treatments the hospital provided, I didn't really do anything myself, and when the splint was removed, the bridge had more swelling than I expected. It looked okay from the side, but from the front it looked a bit puffy. But now that swelling has settled down a lot too... I felt relieved. More than before, the overall shape of my nose has become much more naturally pretty, and that is what I like most. I worried whether autologous costal cartilage was the right choice, but now my feeling is even stronger that I am satisfied.
