Before going, I had seen a lot of posts saying they pressure you about a reservation fee? so I was worried I might be intimidated by the consultant and not be able to speak well. But once I actually went, it felt like I had just chatted with a friend, so I felt good. Because the consultation took place in a friendly atmosphere, I was able to speak well too, and I was so grateful that they clearly resolved everything I was curious about!!
1. I’m curious about the amount of bleeding during surgery. - At our hospital, the amount of bleeding is not large, so we do not use a Hemovac (blood drain), and patients are discharged on the day of surgery without hospitalization. During square jaw surgery, the amount of bleeding varies by patient, but it tends to increase the farther the bone is resected in a long line toward the chin. However, since the surgical direction you want is mainly mandibular angle resection, there will likely be almost no bleeding or swelling. (For reference, I said I did not want a front-view effect.)
2. Are there any major blood vessels during square jaw surgery that could be life-threatening? - There is one deep behind the ear. However, there are several layers of membrane, so it is difficult to access. The possibility of rupturing that blood vessel is almost nonexistent.
3. I’ve seen cases where the mouth looks smaller and pinched after square jaw surgery. Is this a side effect of square jaw surgery? - No.
4. I heard that after square jaw surgery, the masseter muscle moves upward, the neck-side muscles move downward, and the depressor anguli oris moves upward, which can cause an S-shaped wavy jawline (showed a photo). What causes the jawline to become uneven like this? - If the square jaw is excessively resected, the amount of bone the muscles should attach to decreases, so it can become uneven. In other words, over-resection is the cause.
5. After square jaw resection, how does the long piece of bone come out? I understand the incision site inside the mouth is 4–5 cm. - He showed me with a motion lol. He made a gesture showing it being smoothly taken out through that opening.
6. Is it possible to have a guardian accompany me and watch the CCTV? I’m worried about proxy surgery. - He brought over a Samsung Pad? device, opened the CCTV app, and directly showed me footage inside the operating room.
