Before Mizak even opened, I met Director Ahn Eun-mo and earnestly asked for a revision surgery. I pleaded with him to operate on me, but the doctor firmly said to come back only after creating the nostrils. I have not only been to one or two hospitals over one or two days, but had quite a few consultations, and only Doctor Ahn Eun-mo did not talk about some dramatic rhinoplasty. Because he explained very realistically what could improve from the condition of my nose, and was firm about what could not be done, I trusted him even more. So I tried to have only the nostrils made and then get the rhinoplasty at Mizak, but
At a hospital known for revision surgery near Gangnam Station, they said making only the nostrils was not possible, so on December 29, 2021 I decided to have an overall surgery with costal cartilage, and they said it might need to be supplemented through several operations. They also said that the day to take off masks would come soon, so should not the nose be made before then? That the nose could be made as high as I wanted (showing a photo of a woman with a very high nose) and that the hollowed part of the nasal tip would be filled using my own tissue. They also said that any area I wanted to revise or supplement could be done.
Each time, they said I only needed to pay 500,000 won for anesthesia.
I had surgery on December 29, 2021, and the nostrils were created, but the cosmetic appearance still did not become a normal nose.
I had surgery again at Gangnam Station in June 2022, but for this surgery, after discussing filling the hollowed part of the nasal tip, I underwent surgery, yet the two spots on the tip were still hollow. When I looked in the mirror after surgery, once the anesthesia wore off, it was still hollow, so I thought this surgery had failed too. When I asked why it had not been done, they avoided answering and left the room. Of course, the appearance still was not a normal nose. Inside the nose, flesh had also grown in, and as time passed it felt like someone with a broken nose, with the left and right sides of the nose rattling back and forth. The nasal incision was also made toward the philtrum, but at Gangnam Station they incised where they should not have.
So because of the mistaken surgery, they said they would operate again this year in April, but then told me to pay 3,000,000 won. So I asked for a discount and they said they would reduce it to 1,500,000 won. 1,500,000 won for general anesthesia (when proceeding with costal cartilage) 500,000 won for sedation anesthesia (when proceeding with silicone)
And what they first clearly said, that for each revision surgery I only needed to pay 500,000 won for anesthesia, changing their words like that is, I think, wrong. And surgery should be done with the method best suited to the patient's condition, yet to tell me to pay for surgery depending on the material and the anesthesia, changing what they said at first and making business out of the patient's desperation, I wonder if they are really a doctor.
And when I told the chief manager that, for the cosmetic aspect, the nose should look normal to anyone else too, and that I came for surgery to receive a successful operation, they raised their voice and asked what exactly that standard was, and we could not understand each other.
All the manager kept emphasizing was that it was better than before.
I said I was not just trying to get a little better than before, but was having surgery to get a successful, normal nose,
but all they kept stressing was that my case was difficult.
Anyway, with my nose still not normal, I went back to Mizak for another consultation. I was so anxious, afraid they might say they could not do the surgery, but fortunately they said they would operate
After the consultation, I scheduled the surgery on the earliest available date.
On the morning of April 24, I had surgery with silicone for the bridge and costal cartilage. When I woke from anesthesia and looked in the mirror, the splint had been carefully taped over on the outside so it would not fall off. Inside the nose, Silastic was used (a transparent plate for both septa), so I did not need a separate nostril silicone stent to prevent flesh from growing in. Even if the nostrils became smaller, the septum was made thick and firm so the nose would be strongly supported, and now it no longer rattles left and right.
When I had surgery at Gangnam Station, I bought a nostril silicone stent at the hospital for 200,000 won, but although the opening was wide, the silicone length was short at 6 mm, so flesh grew inside the nose. So I melted the splint in hot water and made my own 17 mm nostril piece, and inserted it every day to expand the nostrils. Later, I bought and used a nostril silicone expander frame online with the correct nostril length size.
At the Gangnam Station hospital, I showed them that the silicone I bought from the hospital was too short, so I had made my own from a splint and was using that. The nurses also acknowledged that the expander sold by the hospital was not appropriate for patients, and said that these days the director was advocating expanding the nostrils by keeping cotton in place for a long time. It was the first time I had seen a nurse complain about the director's treatment and badmouth him. The next time I bought a nostril expander and went wearing it, the director asked where I had bought it, and asked the information manager to tell him, so I did.
Anyway, because Gangnam Station did not provide proper treatment, flesh grew inside the nostrils, but Doctor Ahn Eun-mo placed Silastic inside the nostrils from the very beginning of surgery, so flesh did not grow inside the nostrils and I can breathe well.
Starting the day after surgery, for two weeks excluding days the clinic was closed, I visited the hospital every day and received two kinds of IV fluids to prevent inflammation, laser treatment to help wound healing, disinfection of the surgical area, and hyperbaric oxygen therapy.
My condition was very poor, so the nurses took great care to help me receive treatment comfortably, and my assigned manager carefully checked and double-checked what treatments I needed so that nothing was missed, and made sure I could receive everything on time, without waiting, smoothly.
And because the director and the manager both knew how hard things had been for me for a long time, they took care of each other and helped me, so I received a great deal of help in many ways. They also gave me more sessions of hyperbaric oxygen therapy, so I was treated well, had no inflammatory reaction, and am recovering well in good condition.
They said that if a hollow spot in the nose appears later, they have a regenerative injection and will give me the injection, and that if I want any additional supplementation later, they would do it. Because they are prepared for possible variables and are working hard so that I can get the best possible result, I feel at ease.
I am also very satisfied with my current condition. I hope I can keep recovering like this without any trouble.
Until I got the result I have now, I was so exhausted and in so much pain that I never want surgery again.
My 2.5-year journey
From December 17, 2020, when the failed nose revision surgery happened, until April 24, 2023, when I had surgery with Director Ahn Eun-mo and got a normal nose, and until today, June 5, 2023, when the stitches were removed and I recovered stably, for me it was a continuous series of tension, and there were too many critical moments. I was even told my nose was grotesque, so I lived hidden away and could not live like a normal person, I could not work, could not even meet my friends, and had to wage a battle with myself while cut off from the world. I thought countless times that I wanted to turn my back on the world, but I clung to one hope that things would work out, and held on with all the strength I had. While I was enduring like that, the Gangnam Station hospital hurt me not only with the result but also with their attitude and words, and it was a long and difficult time.
Not cosmetic surgery with fancy words, but thanks to Director Ahn Eun-mo of Mizak, who showed his skill, I feel that life is worth living these days.
Now it feels like I am actually living. I am no longer tense. I have room in my heart now, I meet people, and I am going out into the world and spending happy days.
I did well to hold on. I truly thank Director Ahn Eun-mo for giving me a life I can live.
Who would have known that because of cosmetic surgery I would go through such things and spend such painful times?
It was a time when I truly felt to the bone that cosmetic surgery can both kill people and save them.
And
I had surgery at Mizak and went to the Gangnam Station hospital to demand a refund, and when I said I had surgery at another hospital, the Gangnam Station manager said, “That's really unfortunate, I hope your surgery went well, xxx-nim,” with a mocking tone.
I'll return those words to you. It's really unfortunate that my surgery at Mizak went so well.
You said I was a difficult case, but our Director Ahn Eun-mo accomplished that difficult case.
