The reason I decided to have double jaw surgery was when I went for a hospital consultation with a close older friend during summer vacation after entering university. She had plans for double jaw surgery, so I went with her, and during the consultation, the director told me that I had an underbite and malocclusion. At the time, I had not been thinking about double jaw surgery, but while receiving the consultation, I learned that my condition was more serious than I had thought. The director recommended surgery to me, and I even received a quote, but since I was a university student at the time, the large cost felt burdensome, so I lived vaguely thinking I would need to do it someday. As time passed, I started working, saved up some money, and decided to have the surgery to overcome the complex I had been feeling all along. In particular, I was shocked whenever I took photos because my chin looked protruded, and my desire to resolve that complex grew stronger. The reason I chose this hospital was because, among the hospitals I had visited before with my older friend, EU Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery was the one that stayed in my memory. When I received a consultation for surgery, Director Shin Hee-jin recommended orthodontic correction first, followed by surgery. Other hospitals said they would proceed if I wanted surgery first, but I was deeply impressed by the director’s attitude of prioritizing safety and approaching the case carefully, and that gave me trust. Also, I liked that Director Shin’s surgical style was not excessive and created results naturally. These points gave me a lot of confidence, and I immediately booked double jaw surgery. After double jaw surgery, I was surprised that my mind was clearer than expected, but only briefly, because on the first day of surgery, the same day, it was so hard to breathe that it was painful. From day 2, I had a slight fever, but thanks to the nurses’ care, I became a bit more able to manage, and by the morning of day 3, I was well enough to walk, so I slowly walked around the hospital lobby for a stroll. Maybe because of that, the swelling had not become severe up to that point. The hospital provided three cans of New Care per day, but over 2 nights and 3 days, I could only drink two. I think it may have been the moment in my life when I had the least appetite. Before discharge, they removed what was blocked in my nose and throat with suction, and in that moment it was truly refreshing itself. After that, I listened to the discharge instructions, picked up my prescription at the pharmacy, and returned home. While I was hospitalized, there was almost no swelling, but after discharge, I gradually started to swell. Especially on days 4 to 5, it felt like my face had spread out widely sideways. It looked as if someone had pulled my cheeks outward on both sides. I was worried because the swelling was so severe, so on day 5, I walked more than 10,000 steps to manage the swelling. By day 7, the face that had spread sideways gradually changed into a rounder feeling. I went to the hospital, received disinfection and laser treatment, and the director told me the surgery had gone well, so I felt relieved and went home. I could definitely feel that when I walked a lot and talked, the swelling went down quickly. (On day 10 after surgery, I even went all the way to Everland to reduce swelling;;;;; hehe) After that, the swelling went down, and I was able to eat most soft foods, so I could meet friends, go on dates, and enjoy everyday life. I had eaten everything I wanted to eat up until the day before surgery, so I reached the highest weight of my life, but maybe because I ate almost only liquids and porridge for 2 weeks, I lost a total of 5 kg, and I feel proud because I seem somewhat human again.^^ It has been over 1 month, and my jawline is finally starting to show. Now I have recovered enough to use a regular spoon even at restaurants, and I can eat things like shrimp or mushrooms if I cut them up. (It differs depending on the doctor’s follow-up observation and diagnosis, so I recommend asking before eating.) Since I started eating well, I gained about 2 kg back, but everyone says I look prettier than before surgery, so I’m happy. I had a lot of concerns before double jaw surgery, but in the end, I think it was a really good choice. Managing swelling is not easy, but I try to walk more than 10,000 steps once or twice a week, and I feel rewarded as I watch myself change day by day. Now I’m so, so moved that I no longer have to absolutely fix my chin when taking or editing photos, and (the surgery turned out exactly like the style I used to edit my photos into, so I’m completely satisfied) I’m looking forward to becoming prettier and more natural as time passes, and I’m waiting for the residual swelling to go down. I hope this can be a reference or help to those who are scheduled for surgery:)
