Hello, I’m going to leave a review of my protruding mouth surgery from about two weeks ago. It wasn’t because the hospital asked me to, and I’ve had a lot of cosmetic surgery...?ˀ done, but this is my first time writing something like this..
Why I’m writing it is because I’m still young (early 20s) and maybe because I care a lot about my appearance, I was really stressed. I’m writing this for people who have had to deal with that stress for even longer than I have, or for people who are even younger than me and have no information about surgery, and could end up being fooled by brokers in the meantime, have 4 teeth pulled, and regret it after surgery. Also for people who are looking up surgery reviews, I’m just writing this. I don’t want my photos to spread, but I still wanted to show how I changed, so I asked the hospital for my photos and am uploading the photos I received (before surgery, 2 weeks after surgery) along with a selfie I took before and a photo of me applying lipstick lightly after surgery (day 9).
It has been 16 days for me now, and this may be a bit early for a review, but I wanted to share at least 2-week information. Once time passes, I feel like I’ll forget the days when my mouth stuck out so much, and the desire to share this information will disappear too. I’m only posting here because I don’t want to post it all over the place, and this site seems to filter out brokers the best. First of all, before surgery I had a protruding mouth, but I had never been called ugly for it. Because my mouth protruded, I got eye surgery to draw attention away from my mouth, raised my nose to at least offset the protrusion, and got filler in my chin. It was all cosmetic work for the mouth. And once makeup was added, people said I was pretty wherever I went. But there was always one comment that followed: that I would look pretty if I did my nose, or people with good eyesight would say the mouth was the problem. I meet a lot of people, so I hear a lot of comments about my appearance too. Even after I had my nose done, hearing that I would look prettier if I did my nose was stressful. It was all because of my mouth that my nose looked low... People who do not have a protruding mouth don’t even really know what it is.^^ They just think it looks like a duck. So I went back to have a nose revision. But everyone said my skin is thin, so they couldn’t make it higher than it already is. So I finally decided to fix the root cause and push the mouth in.
Why? Because I had a protruding mouth, and I also didn’t want to go through 2 to 3 years with braces making it protrude even more. My teeth were already well aligned anyway. Even with orthodontics, I thought it would only go in a tiny bit. I didn’t want braces, and Kilbon orthodontics is attached to the inside of the teeth, right? The cost is also similar to surgery, and I gave up on the idea of wearing braces for years while paying almost the same as surgery. Double jaw surgery?ˀ I didn’t have that kind of money, and since my only complex was my mouth, I had no intention of touching anything else. Also, I know a few people who had double jaw surgery, and it takes at least two months just to get rid of that tremendous swelling. I don’t have the time or money to rest that long. So I only focused on protruding mouth surgery.
If you keep looking into it, you can filter out cafés with lots of brokers too. Whenever I asked them to send me a message, they all said the same thing. From choosing a hospital onward, I searched Google and Naver every night before bed and read consultation reviews. Out of many hospitals, there wasn’t one I really wanted to go to. If I had finally made up my mind to fix my protruding mouth, I wanted to do it at a proper place... I excluded places that advertise too much, places that are too cheap, places where the postoperative mouth shape in the review photos was different from the mouth shape I wanted, and places that use brokers, and started consultations here first. About the consultation, if you read the reviews for this hospital, everyone says similar things, and I felt the same way. The high price?ˀ I expected that. The director’s humor, confidence, and how some people feel a lot of trust while others feel less trust... Hmm, I didn’t think of this as a light surgery, so I’m not writing this to rashly recommend a hospital. Everyone, please look into hospitals carefully. My review is only for reference. After the consultation, I felt trust and thought I should do it, so I went through with it. It’s best to receive the consultation yourself. So I didn’t go to any other hospitals. And I didn’t have cheekbone or square-jaw surgery. They said I didn’t really need those.
•Before surgery to the day of surgery• After booking the surgery, I started looking into reviews more seriously and in more depth. On top of that, even before surgery people kept saying I was pretty and asking where I was getting it done, so I worried that after everything, people would just say everything about me is pretty except my mouth, and if I changed it, they’d say, why did you do it, you looked better before surgery. Right up until just before the operation, even when I was consulting, and even when I was about to lie down on the operating table, I kept wondering if this was really right... Then I went under general anesthesia. General anesthesia was scary. It wasn’t even sedation anesthesia. But really, as soon as I heard them tell me to breathe in and I breathed, I opened my eyes and was in the recovery room... There was blood pooled all over inside my mouth, and the director handed me a mirror.
My face was puffed up in a really cute way, and only my mouth had been pulled in. At first it was really strange. The roof of my mouth was swollen, and it felt like there were blisters on the palate... ugh. And there was something wire-like that I could feel with my tongue. I couldn’t open my mouth. It was hard even to drink water. They told me not to swallow the blood, so I kept spitting it out. The fact that my mouth had been pulled in was so strange. I wasn’t very swollen because it was the day of surgery, so the swelling was cute + I was admitted for one night, so I kind of forgot I was hungry.. For a moment I forgot, and as soon as I got home I poured only the seaweed soup broth and gulped it down.. I only drank things. Sleeping was hard, and my nose was blocked so blood kept pooling, which was hard, but that one or two days is the same as when I had nose surgery. Put lukewarm water by the bed and drink it whenever you feel dry.
•Day 1 to Day 5 after surgery• I was discharged the next day. I was insanely hungry. It was hard enough to survive on mukbang videos. And I think a face without much fat is very unpretty, so I didn’t want to lose weight either. So I ordered New Care right away on Coupang and drank a ton, absorbing nutrients. I also drank only the broth from seaweed soup, and because I couldn’t open my mouth, I went to Bonjuk, asked them to blend the porridge more, and just drank the porridge. I only drank it... I thought walking was the answer, and I also talked a lot with my friends. I thought moving my mouth a lot by talking would be good, so I mumbled, but I still just talked. Even laughing was hard because I couldn’t open my mouth, but I just laughed, and then around day 3 or 4 my mouth started opening a little. So I chopped up udon noodles with scissors, loosened them with a teaspoon, put them into my mouth, which still wouldn’t open, and chewed with my molars. And on day 5 I took the tape off my chin and ate curry udon. Adding curry to plain udon was really delicious... good. Rice was still too much... It’s really uncomfortable when the sutures get caught in everything, and it feels like an infection might develop.
At that time my worry was that my chin looked like Kim Gura’s, so I was worried. They scraped away all the chin filler and advanced the chin, but because of the swelling my chin looked really long and big...
•Day 6 to Day 10• I made cabbage and soybean paste soup, simmered it so that the broth soaked into the rice, and ate it. I could use chopsticks well now, so I put finely chopped Spam on my molars and chewed it. I worked hard at eating. I didn’t want to lose weight, so only small amounts went in, and even if I ate often, I still got hungry easily. I definitely drank New Care + swelling tea + pumpkin juice. The swelling kept going down day by day, and my face kept getting longer and longer (because it was settling downward).
•Day 10 to Day 13• They remove the sutures at the 2-week mark, and until then it felt like the swelling had stopped for 4 days. It had been dropping noticeably, then now it was only going down a little, so I got too lazy to even look in the mirror. But from this point on, I could eat well too. I just ate. Some people say they only ate porridge until 2 weeks, but I honestly don’t know why that would be the case. I chopped up pasta with scissors and ate it, chopped up tteokbokki and ate it, picked out the meat from fried chicken and ate it, and the next day the batter got soggy, but soggy parts are still edible so I ate them too. I ate rice pretty well too. Everything gets stuck in my mouth, but I just kept eating with it stuck there, and right after eating I would disinfect? gargle?ˀ. Then everything would come pouring out inside my mouth. I gargled in the bathroom for about 15 minutes. I My younger sibling had contouring surgery, and they live just like I do. The difference is that they can use their front teeth, but I can’t... so I still can’t bite into things, and there are still many things I can’t eat. Things that require the front teeth. But if I just chop them up with scissors and chew them with my molars, it’s fine. Hard things are difficult even for the molars, so I don’t eat them.
•Day 14 and after• People kept frightening me by saying suture removal hurts, so I screamed. But the feeling of the scissors touching the delicate skin inside my mouth was scary as hell, but the director didn’t cut the flesh inside my mouth, only the sutures very neatly. So the sound of cutting and the feeling of the scissors touching me were scary, but it didn’t really hurt. Honestly I’m a coward, so I screamed a lot and felt awkward. Once the sutures were removed, I could feel the swelling around my mouth slowly going down. Right away my younger sibling and I chopped up gopchang + daechang and ate them, and we peeled off the batter from fried seasoned chicken and ate it. They say you can drink alcohol from the 3-week mark. Not too far off.
I went out every day and walked around a lot, and I worked hard to reduce the swelling with swelling tea, pumpkin juice, and pumpkin pills?ˀ. I already have a lot of know-how from the surgeries I’ve had, so I did everything I could to reduce the swelling, and I was very diligent with cold compresses until day 4. I also had extra cold packs from another plastic surgery clinic, so I kept rotating and using them. I never let the ice pack out of my hand. After that, I thought about warm compresses and used bruise-reducing and bruise/contusion creams to get rid of both swelling and bruising. So I ended up writing mostly about eating. I really hate my face getting gaunt.
Even though it’s early, the things I feel so far after surgery are: right now I’m in week 2, and in one or two months it will probably feel different again, but for now my face feels very different. And I wasn’t really planning to do orthodontics after surgery, but the upper part where the tooth was extracted is almost completely closed and not visible, while the lower teeth still show a little because they were only moved in a little. So I’m thinking about it. I wondered if it could go in more because I like how it is now, but they say they’ll pull the molar area forward. My nasolabial folds are noticeable. But it’s the same as before, except before they were buried because my protruding mouth drew all the attention. My philtrum doesn’t feel like it got shorter, and it even felt a bit protruded?ˀ flat before, but once the mouth was pulled in, a line formed in the philtrum too, so I like that more. The lengthening may just be in my head. I actually like the line... My lips do get more pursed. They say they’ll gradually relax, but I’m thinking of getting lip filler. I used to think my nose wasn’t low either, but really, now that my mouth has been pulled in, the tip of my nose looks high even from the front?ˀ that kind of feeling?ˀ hehe... Even when eating noodles or drinking through a straw, my mouth used to come out first, which was really noticeable on dates or in similar situations, and I couldn’t eat properly in front of other people.. But now it’s not like that, so I’m happy.. Even if someone goes “woo~” from the side, before I would have crossed beyond the border of the nose tip, but now I absolutely don’t.
But please don’t rush into this surgery Make sure to research thoroughly and do it at the place that suits you. Even if you can’t afford it right away, don’t do it hastily just because you can make it work in the situation you’re in. It’s better to save more, research more, and do it when you have room... This isn’t a surgery to do in a hurry. And tooth extraction... it does feel a bit strange when something that was naturally there disappears. Anyway, I was probably destined to need extraction, but still. If you have anything else you’re curious about, ask me. Knowing my personality, in a few months I’ll probably be completely used to this face, forget I even had surgery, and forget this site completely too, so I probably won’t come back here.
