Double-Jaw Surgery Reviews

Double jaw surgery

Hello, everyone I had double jaw surgery and contouring surgery on May 21 at Wi Oral Surgery, and it has now been two months h

Ever since I was little (back in school), people kept saying I had a long face, that I looked like a cucumber, that my face was long, and I kept thinking I should get surgery once I became an adult. I finally feel like I have solved it, and I am happy. After I finished my military service, I went around to different hospitals planning to get surgery. I first went to a dental clinic thinking I should get orthodontic treatment first, and after a consultation they told me that this could not be improved with orthodontics alone and that surgery would need to be combined... While looking for hospitals through YouTube, the internet, impersonation accounts, and various oral and maxillofacial surgery YouTube reviews, I came across Wi Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Dental Clinic. I looked into that hospital and it felt so right for me that I chose it. Also, it was important that this hospital was an oral and maxillofacial surgery clinic, and I really liked that they also had dentistry there, so I could do orthodontic treatment there too. So I immediately set up a consultation date and went for one. They said I needed presurgical orthodontics followed by surgery, so I signed up that way. I really love exercising and I also had to work, so quick recovery and being able to return to daily life were important to me. Wi Oral Surgery and Dental Clinic offered no-tie double jaw surgery, which allowed for faster recovery, and that was very good. One of the most important things was the director's experience and the fact that they do not do assembly-line surgery, one patient a day, which really resonated with me. When I first went to the hospital, the equipment and facilities inside were clean, and the staff in charge, dental hygienists, and all the nurses were kind. They understood my concerns and complexes in great detail and helped me with the consultation. At my first consultation, I was scared and nervous to meet Director Lee Seok-jae, but he was very warm and even cracked jokes once in a while, which helped me relax and made the consultation comfortable.

Before surgery

From my first consultation to surgery, I had presurgical orthodontics first because I needed that sequence. After that, I came to the hospital often to have the wafer adjusted and undergo various tests. Until the day before surgery, I built up my stamina, ate all the things I wanted to eat, and then started fasting. I also prepared the items I needed for surgery by checking YouTube and internet reviews. (sauce containers, electrolyte drinks, tissues, wet wipes, charger, Otrivin, etc.) I also bought pumpkin juice, Newcare, porridge, and other foods to eat at home after surgery.

The day of surgery, 5/21

My surgery was at 10:00 a.m., so I arrived at the hospital around 9:40, changed into a patient gown, had one last consultation with the director, and then went into the operating room thinking it was nothing much. The nurses in the operating room were busy preparing everything, and while putting on the oxygen mask they told me to take deep breaths. I took deep breaths and closed my eyes, and that was my last memory. Then when I started to regain consciousness after surgery, it seemed like it was around 2:00 to 2:30. When I opened my eyes, it was not so much pain as it was that there were a lot of things attached to me and I felt uncomfortable. That was all. The nurses took really good care of me and looked after me so well that I was not very uncomfortable. Before surgery, from reviews and what people around me said, I had seen and heard a lot of things like double jaw surgery is really hard and I could never do it. Maybe because I am not very sensitive, but I do not think I ever felt like I was going to die. If there was one thing, it was that breathing was hard? That was a little scary. There was a blood bag in my mouth, a hose in my nose, and because my face felt tight and gauze was stuck on my philtrum, I did not know what I should breathe through, so I just slowly breathed through my mouth. The director said the first day would be really hard, so I spent the day thinking I just had to survive today. When I became a bit more conscious, my parents told me they had watched the CCTV in the operating room while I was in surgery, and they said the director and the nurses around him were really veterans, so I really felt at ease. On the first day I just thought I had to endure it quickly, but time really did not pass, and every hour they checked my blood pressure and oxygen saturation, gave me IV pain medication, and did many things for me. Thinking about it now, I feel sorry because they must have gone through a lot. Also, before the director left work, he came to tell me the surgery went well, and that made me really happy. They said I could not drink water until 8:00, so I held on tightly, and around 8:30 a nurse gave me water so I tried, but it was still hard.. Oh, and one of the things I saw on YouTube was that your butt really hurts, so I brought a donut cushion, but I did not use it.. The Daiso sauce containers were really better than the cushion. Daiso is the best haha. At night too, they kept checking my blood pressure and oxygen, and every time I stopped breathing the machine beeped, which was difficult. They said the urinary catheter and blood bag would have all the connected hoses removed by morning, so I desperately waited for the next morning to come.

The second day, 5/22

At 7:30 in the morning, they removed the urinary catheter. (It was my first time in my life having a catheter, so it felt awkward and hurt.. but it felt refreshing.) Around 8:30 or 9:00? They removed the nose hose > removed the gauze > I got a swelling laser treatment > saw the director, had the blood bag removed, and he taught me how to match my occlusion with the wafer. I was so happy that I could now walk and go to the bathroom by myself, and since I could also go for walks, I greeted the managers in the hospital and walked around little by little, which made me feel alive and good!! And once they removed all the hoses connected to the blood bag, I felt much better. While I was moving around and lying in bed, a nurse came and gave me Newcare and mouthwash, saying from today onward I should drink this and rinse with this, so I poured the Newcare into a sauce container and drank it gulp by gulp, and I also rinsed my mouth. Oh, and it is really best to drink a lot of water. Later, I had to practice swallowing medicine, so I drank a lot. And as always, before the director left work, he came by to check on me, and that gave me confidence again. The night-shift nurse, who should not be left out, also changed my hot pack, prepared the discharge items and precautions for the next day in advance, and took great care of me, which was nice!! I could not sleep well, so I looked up things like the Napoleon sleep method and slept a little at a time. At night I really could not sleep, so I watched YouTube and kept walking around the hospital, and the nurse came to talk to me, asking if I was not sleeping and worrying about me, which was nice haha. It was amazing that I was already being discharged the next day.

Discharge day, the third day, 5/23

It seems like I got my last IV until around 8:30 and then it was removed. (While getting the IV, they put in various injectable medicines like painkillers and antibiotics, and my arm got cold and I felt nauseated, like I was about to throw up.) Then I changed clothes, packed my things, got the swelling laser treatment, saw the director one last time, and around 9:30 I picked up my prescribed medicine at the pharmacy and was discharged. My parents came by car to pick me up, so I went home in my parents' car. When I arrived home, the first thing I really wanted to do was shower (since I had not been able to wash for two days), so I drank one pumpkin juice and showered right away. I felt really good. When I looked at my face in the shower, it seemed like the surgery went so well that I felt doubly happy. And since I could not brush my teeth every time I ate, I had to rinse with mouthwash, so I used the mouthwash prescribed by the hospital every day. They said swelling reaches its peak about 4 to 5 days after surgery, so I kept swelling until then...

The fourth day, 5/24

As expected, I swelled even more and even bigger than the day before.. As expected, it seems like swelling keeps increasing until day 5. Still, as the days passed, breathing gradually got better. The only hard part was that I kept getting nosebleeds.. Every time my nose bled, I kept wiping it with tissues and cotton swabs, and from this point on I started walking around like crazy. (Really with the thought of reducing swelling.) After breakfast I walked, after lunch I walked, and after dinner I walked. I kept sitting, standing, and not lying down (to avoid getting even more swollen). And when I went outside, wearing a mask meant no one could tell I had had surgery, which was a relief. I also tried to have a conversation, but I absolutely could not pronounce clearly, so it came out as mumbling and I failed.. Also, because I had surgery, I could not eat, so I was so hungry, and since I was only eating porridge and watery food, I was very hungry. So at dinner, following the director's recommendation, I ate castella soaked in milk, and it was really very delicious. I was shocked that I had never been able to eat something like this before and ate it often. (An irresistible taste..) That day too, I used the tightening band and ice packs often. As time passed, I was able to sleep more comfortably.

The fifth day, 5/25

The swelling was at its peak, but unlike other people, I did not have bruising. Since I had kept eating only porridge and pumpkin juice, I decided to try something different that day and tried ramen, which others usually do not challenge until one or two weeks later. Since I was told not to eat spicy or salty foods, I used only a little of the soup powder, cut the noodles into very small pieces, and tried it. I cooked one pack, but could only eat half and threw the rest away. Still, after eating only porridge, pumpkin juice, and Newcare, this felt truly amazing. Just in case, I checked the precautions and saw that I was not supposed to eat dairy products for a week, but I kept eating them without knowing.. And from the fifth day onward, I switched from cold compresses to warm compresses and kept doing them.

The eighth day, 5/28

That day I went to the hospital, got the swelling laser treatment, saw the director, had my progress checked, and had the stitches disinfected. Every time the managers and nurses saw me, they kept saying my face had become much smaller, the swelling had gone down a lot, and I looked gentler, and they kept praising me for the surgery going well, which made me happy. The director also praised me a lot every time he saw me and kept saying it went well, which was nice. He said to brush my teeth gently from now on, so since that day I have been brushing diligently.

Until two weeks after surgery, the stitches were not removed, so the swelling did not go down any further, but until the stitches were removed I kept walking regularly and managed the compresses diligently. My speech feels only slightly slurred because of the surgery and orthodontic treatment. People around me said double jaw surgery is really hard, but I really think if you can just endure the first two or three days, it becomes a surgery that is manageable after that. I hope those who are about to have double jaw surgery, as well as those who had it not long ago, can get through it well and see good results.

And now, two months later,,! Compared with the one-month mark, the swelling is visibly going down day by day! At the beginning after surgery and even after one month, I could not eat the things I wanted very well, but in the second month I started eating meat little by little and ate so much of what I wanted that I gained all the weight back. Still, my face is clearly much shorter than before surgery, and it looks more natural and prettier than before, so I am very satisfied. In the early days after surgery, I thought I could never have double jaw surgery again, but seeing how much better I look after surgery, even if I went back to the past I think I would make the same choice. I am so satisfied.
