Before-before-after-after-after Last month, on May 27, I had double-jaw surgery + genioplasty + square jaw surgery at Y Oral Surgery!! As you can see from the pre-op photos, I had facial asymmetry, an underbite, and protruding mouth, so I was extremely stressed about it since I was young When I first went for orthodontic treatment at age 20, I was diagnosed as a double-jaw surgery case, not an orthodontic case, and because double-jaw surgery scared me, I spent 7 years just thinking about it before finally having surgery at Y.
First, the reasons I had surgery at Y Oral and Maxillofacial were:
1. There is only one director, Director Lee Seok-jae! I heard there have been a lot of proxy surgery incidents these days, so from the start I went somewhere with only one director!! 2. Open CCTV The director said very confidently that he would open the CCTV footage of the whole surgery process, so I trusted them more. 3. The director’s experience He previously worked at a large hospital, so he has a high number of surgeries and a long career! 4. Orthodontics can also be done in one place There is also an orthodontic director, so after double-jaw surgery, I can proceed with double-jaw surgery and orthodontics in one place without having to go to another dental clinic!! There are countless reasons I chose Y Oral Surgery, but if I only list the big ones, maybe about this much? And first of all, everyone was so kind.. Anyway, on the day I went for consultation, I booked right away and proceeded with surgery!
(Day of surgery) Yes, first of all, I regretted it. I felt like I was dying. During surgery, it’s under general anesthesia anyway, and when you wake up, the surgery is over. There was absolutely no pain like my jawbone hurting. But breathing was so hard, my face had no sensation, and I thought my tailbone and butt were going to disappear. There were tubes hanging from my nose and throat, and I also had a urinary catheter, so I couldn’t move at all. My only memory of the first day is “I’m dying.” I even searched on Naver for how to turn back time ^^..
(Second day after surgery) If you keep sleeping and waking in 20-30 minute stretches, the next day, which felt like it would never come, does come. In the morning, the nurse removed the urinary catheter and blood drains, and from then on I could move! Then I met the director and put in the wafer. It was more bearable than the day before, but I still regretted it..
(Third day after surgery. Discharge) After receiving swelling laser treatment, people usually get discharged around 10, but because I live on Jeju Island, I thought it would be hard to go down right after surgery, so I booked accommodation nearby for about a week. So because of the accommodation check-in time, I asked if I could be discharged late, and they said it was okay, so I was discharged at 4!! But everyone from outside Seoul, if you have surgery, no matter how far it is, just go home. When you’re in pain, home is the best. I booked an early morning flight the next day and flew home. All that accommodation money wasted....
(Week 1) The first week is hell. Your face keeps swelling more and more, to the point where you wonder if a face can swell this much The facial pressure pain was also so severe, and I was scared my face might burst... And I couldn’t eat food, only liquid foods like New Care and Pocari through a sauce bottle, but honestly, I wasn’t hungry. Eating was hard, and I just had no appetite at all Still, you have to eat well for recovery to be even a little faster, so force yourself to eat. And I also walked for 1 hour every day without fail!! Walking is the best for swelling. When I walk, it does feel like the swelling goes down a bit.
(Week 2) At week 2, the stitches are removed. From this point on, life gets a bit more bearable! There’s no nasal congestion, and the wafer can be taken in and out when eating, so I said goodbye to the sauce bottle. Most of all, I like that I don’t have to take medicine anymore... Swallowing pills is so hard From this point on, I started eating soft foods like porridge, cold noodles, ramen, pudding, and so on. Of course, I still can’t chew. So I cut everything into tiny pieces with scissors and eat it!! But I’m happy!!! The swelling also starts to go down little by little!
Now that week 2 has passed and I’m on day 20, I’m always hungry and want to chew. Now I’ve become a pro at swallowing without chewing. For most foods, I cut them up finely with scissors without chewing and gulp them down People say they lose 7-8 kg after surgery, but I didn’t lose even 1 kg. I survived by eating everything somehow. I ate soft tofu stew, mapo tofu, pudding, cold noodles, jajangmyeon, and jjamppong.
The swelling is starting to go down very, very slowly. When I wake up, it’s tight and swollen, then by evening it goes down a little; then I sleep and wake up swollen again, and by evening it goes down again, repeating! I do warm compresses whenever I can, and when I do, the facial pressure pain is a bit less! I strongly recommend warm compresses! And I started going to work too. Even though I’m still very swollen, people have been saying my face got much smaller, shorter, my impression became softer, and that the surgery went really well, so I got a lot of compliments and felt really good >< The effect of the two contouring procedures definitely seems to be there,, The early post-op pain is starting to be forgotten.... I don’t regret it anymore. I’m just waiting for the swelling to go down quickly. As you can tell from the before-and-after photos, the difference before and after surgery is really clear. Every time I look in the mirror, I admire my recessed chin. Thank you, Director Lee Seok-jae… and the manager and nurses who took care of me throughout the hospitalization.. I haven’t even started orthodontics yet and there’s a long way to go, but I’m just happy thinking I’ll become prettier><
