Because I’d always been stressed about my big, blunt nose, I really wanted to get surgery. But most bulbous-nose correction surgeries are height-increasing surgeries, and since I had both a bulbous nose and a high nose, I couldn’t easily choose a clinic because I couldn’t find any reviews like my case. Just when I had given up and was going about my days without thinking much, my mom suddenly suggested I consult with a doctor who had good reviews. I had a consultation with the same doctor, and he suggested surgery in exactly the direction I wanted. When I saw how he also suggested an appropriate direction for my mom’s nose, even though she didn’t have anything specific she wanted, I decided to go ahead with surgery right away. The doctor seemed very busy, but he always asked if I had any other questions about the surgery, answered well, and checked on my progress often, which I appreciated.
The front desk and nurses weren’t especially warm, but they seemed to do their jobs efficiently and handle everything quickly. When I went at the scheduled time, they didn’t make me wait long, which I liked. I scheduled the surgery for the day after the consultation, and after coming in at 1:30, getting various tests, and waiting, I was able to have the surgery a little earlier than the 5 o’clock time that had been planned. Usually I get very tense when I lie down on the operating table, but for some reason I felt better than expected. A person who wasn’t my attending doctor came in, so I wondered what was going on, but then they sat by my head and said they had come from anesthesia, and when the anesthetic was going in, they even said, “I’ll put you to sleep now,” which made me feel even more at ease.
After the surgery, I woke up lying down in the recovery room. There was no pain in my nose, but I felt nauseous and my throat hurt. In the middle of that, the doctor came by and checked once more, saying that the bone was bigger than expected so they had removed quite a lot of it (lol), and that I would probably have a fair amount of pain, but I had no pain at all.. After sitting a bit longer, I left quickly because I wanted to go home as soon as possible. They had prepared the ointment and antibiotics for me, so I could just take them without having to go to a pharmacy.
Even afterward, there was no pain in my nose or ear, which were the surgical sites. Thankfully they didn’t pack my nose with cotton, so I recovered without any major discomfort. But my throat hurt and I had a hard time because I lost my voice. Starting around day 4 or 5, my throat began to improve a little and my nose started to feel slightly tight. Now it’s day 7, my voice has almost fully come back, and my nose only hurts like a bruise when I press on it.
I’m really satisfied that my nose is smaller and that the uneven step in the front view(?) is gone. The shape has definitely become more feminine, but in my opinion the tip still seems too sharp and upturned. Still, there’s probably a lot of swelling left, so I think it’ll get better once that goes down. I’ll come back after the swelling goes down!
