Cheekbone Surgery Reviews

One-month review of male facial contouring: chin tip + square jaw

Today marks 31 days since surgery. (1) Swelling Most of the major swelling has gone down, but residual swelling remains thick around the chin tip and square-jaw areas. Early on, soft swelling spread broadly below the cheekbones, but it has mostly settled. Now something like firm, clumped scar tissue? is concentrated around the area below the lips and the chin tip. I think the reduced bony contour will show its full effect only after this completely subsides and the skin adheres closely to the bone. Since the third week, it has become somewhat uncomfortable to close my mouth completely and comfortably. I’m not sure whether it is because the swelling has shifted downward and become heavy, or because the muscles have tightened. (2) Nerves It feels as though about 70% of my sensation has returned, but the chin-tip area is still numb. Maybe it is just my imagination, but it also seems to be returning day by day. I can feel something when I touch it, but delicate sensation has not fully returned, so I think it may take until the three-month mark to recover 100%. As for the muscles, perhaps because the nerves are gradually returning and adapting to the changed bone structure, they have felt tight and stiff more often over the past few days. I still cannot comfortably open my mouth left and right while saying “ee,” or up and down while saying “oo.” The muscles, like the nerves, seem to need time to adapt and recover. (3) Satisfaction I definitely feel that my profile looks better than before surgery. Previously, my chin extended far backward, and since my nose was already low, having the chin recede as well made my face lack dimension. Fortunately, it has become at least more presentable. However, unlike the profile, where the changed contour silhouette is clearly visible, I am still unsure about the front because the overall silhouette has not finished settling due to remaining swelling and edema. It does feel better than before, but I think I will be able to judge once the sagging swelling clumped at the chin tip and the swelling around the square jaw have settled. As mentioned above, I think I will fully feel the difference from before surgery once the skin adheres to the bone.
