Eye Surgery Considerations

Eve Community Review

It has been nearly nine years since my surgery. My previous surgeries included medial canthoplasty, followed by revision because of a depressed scar. During the revision, the doctor said they would push the scar further inward, but the scar became worse afterward, so I looked into reconstruction. My case was difficult because the lacrimal lake exposure was limited while the scar was severe. If both the lacrimal lake exposure and scar had been extensive, they could have closed more and removed more of the scar, but that was not possible. Therefore, the standard V-Y method was difficult, and there was no option other than reverse skin redraping. We proceeded with micro-reconstruction, under 1 mm. The severe depressed scar that had bothered me disappeared, and the shape turned out well, so I am satisfied. However, I previously had severe white scars, and the reconstruction moved the scar from below to the front of the eye, making it extremely noticeable. Also, a depressed mark appears in front when I smile or laugh strongly, though it is absent normally. I cannot say for certain that it is a newly formed scar, because adhesions may have existed in the front area due to the scars from the first and revision surgeries. Conclusion: I am satisfied with the shape, and the original depressed scar has almost disappeared. However, it is disappointing that the existing white scar became more noticeable after changing position, and that a dynamic scar appears only when smiling. Overall, though, I am very satisfied because the original depressed scar disappeared.
