Double-Jaw Surgery Reviews

It feels like seeing my past life... I've gotten so used to my current face haha (3-month review)

I had a bad bite since elementary school, and while I missed the proper timing for treatment, I had been thinking that someday I would need surgery. It was already a bite forced into place by orthodontics, so the situation was ambiguous, and when I was told that if I were going to touch it, it would have to be double jaw surgery, I made up my mind. I chose the hospital after looking at review photos and seeing a case similar to mine improve naturally. I also carefully checked the medical staff's careers, and having orthodontics there too felt convenient. More than anything, I trusted it because it was an oral and maxillofacial surgery department. Right after surgery, it was hard because the anesthesia did not wear off properly, and I could not even drink water properly so my throat hurt terribly, but the humidifier really helped a lot. In the beginning, the swelling was severe, so the facial changes were not very visible, but my mom said I looked like I did when I was little and that it was cute haha. On days 2 to 3, I could breathe through my nose better and drink water well, but I had dizziness, so moving around was hard. Around day 5, the wafer and swelling were the hardest part, and even sleeping while sitting up was not easy, but I still did not regret the surgery itself. After the first week, bruising appeared and the swelling gradually went down, but the gum pain from the wafer was still tough. Still, I focused on recovery by eating mostly soft foods. Around the second week, the swelling noticeably went down, and it felt like my face was gradually settling into place. My sensation also started coming back little by little, and I was able to wear makeup and meet friends. In the third week, my stamina had come back a lot, so going out felt natural, and I could eat a wider variety of foods. I still had to wear a mask, but daily life was not very inconvenient. At one month, speaking was not a problem at all, though there was still swelling inside my mouth, so I would sometimes bite the inside of my mouth, but overall it felt like I had completely returned to normal life. Sensation had also mostly come back, so the discomfort was much reduced. By the second month, I was living so naturally that I almost forgot I had surgery haha. Chewing was almost fully possible, and it felt like about 95% of my sensation had returned. Personally, what I am happiest about is getting dressed, because the parts that used to bother me due to my lower face had disappeared, which made me so happy. People around me said I did not look hugely different but looked cuter, which made me feel good too. And now, at the 3-month mark, I am going to school well, eating well, and fully back to daily life. When I sometimes look at old photos, it really feels like I am looking at a past life... maybe because my current face feels so familiar now haha. Getting dressed up has become more fun, and overall I think the surgery went really well.
