Hello. It has already been 1 year since I had double jaw surgery, square jaw surgery, and chin surgery at Y-Gye Oral Surgery. When I was in elementary and middle school, I did not care much about appearance, and I thought my face was just ordinary? But looking back now, it was strange lol. I remember instinctively turning my back to the camera whenever friends or family were taking photos. And aside from very early childhood, the only photos I had of my face were graduation photos. I also remember that when I was laughing and chatting excitedly, I would always cover my mouth when I smiled. Back then, I do not think I was very satisfied with my own face either. It was only in high school that I began to care seriously about appearance. Then once, I watched a video online with a title like 'Why the face you see and the face others see are different.' I took a photo with my phone camera, and when I looked at it, I was first shocked by my face as seen in a mirrored image. Then I compared the photo after reversing it again so it matched the face I see in the mirror, and it felt so awkward and strange that I even felt put off. From that photo, I realized that the left-right asymmetry of my face was quite severe. I wanted to correct the asymmetry, so I started by looking into things like facial stretching, jaw joint movement, and lifestyle habits, and tried various methods to make changes, but the results were minimal. I also looked into orthodontics, but learned that braces alone could not fix facial asymmetry and that I would need double jaw surgery. From that day on, I started researching double jaw surgery and postoperative complications. The surgery went successfully, but I remember the recovery process being quite difficult. Even breathing, drinking protein shakes, and even sleeping were very hard. Still, by walking steadily and managing the swelling with compresses, I recovered quickly and adapted to daily life soon enough. As time passed, I also worried about one of the side effects: whether it might relapse and go back again. It has only been 1 year, so there are no signs of my face returning yet, but I am paying attention to my posture and daily habits to help prevent that. Looking back on the time after surgery, I feel that I have changed a lot myself. Even before surgery, I was always lacking in confidence and covered my face a lot. I also thought the way others treated me came from my face, so I was very stressed from always being so conscious of it. But after surgery, I no longer have to worry about those things, so I feel less stressed and more confident. Over the past year, I have clearly felt that the way people treat me has changed, and even people meeting me for the first time seem to be kind to me. My facial expressions have become more varied, and my smile feels more natural, so I am very happy. Even now, 1 year later, I feel a smile every time I look in the mirror, and I think I am spending my days happily.
