After nose surgery, the tip feels too sharp and artificial, so I’m thinking about whether I need revision surgery. I was debating which board to post in, but I thought removal surgery was probably the right place, so I’m posting here to get everyone’s opinion.
Before I explain, I’ve had nose surgery a total of two times. Once in 2020, and once in 2024.
First of all, there are several photos, but my original nose was a really severe hump nose. It was sharply angular and bent. Before surgery, when I was browsing the internet to look for before-and-after photos, it was hard to find people whose noses looked like mine. So even when choosing a hospital, I went to consultations at several places that were known in the community at the time for male rhinoplasty, and I ended up having my first surgery with the doctor whose consultation gave me the best feeling, without really researching properly, so to speak.
That surgery was osteotomy + ear cartilage placement to create the shape. The result satisfied me at the time. The hump was so severe that it was a major complex, so I was very happy just that the hump was gone and the nose shape became straight.
I lived like that for a few years, but after hearing from people every time I met them that my nose was very high and sharp, I started paying attention to my nose again. As I looked at it more, I began to think, as people said, that my nose looked too sharp and artificial. I had been living without caring, but once I started caring, it became strangely stressful. I’m not the type to hide or feel ashamed about having had cosmetic surgery, but because everyone kept bringing up my nose, I started to feel neurotic.
Am I someone who cares too much about what others think? I thought that as long as I was satisfied, that should be enough, but when I looked at photos, I could see that my nose still stood out too much. Especially in videos, my nose looked the biggest.
So I decided on revision surgery. This time I wanted to research properly, so I searched this community hard again, and based on the advice I gathered at the time, I think I went to about four consultations, including several removal-surgery clinics. Since I had already had surgery once, I focused the next surgery on the things that bothered me most: the sharpness of the tip and whether the artificial look could be made more natural.
At the time, money was tight, so I excluded private clinics, and at a large hospital one surgeon suggested the direction and tip angle I wanted, so I had my second surgery with that doctor. I don’t remember any additional cartilage being used, and I think it was probably more of a cartilage-repositioning type of surgery.
I had been thinking about removal to some extent, but once it came to actually taking everything out, I felt reluctant and worried that the shape might end up looking strange, so I think I leaned toward repositioning instead. And I also remember hearing something along the lines that if a high nose like mine is removed completely, it can collapse? (My memory is fuzzy.)
And the nose I ended up with is the one I have now. People around me say it is much better now. Even people who are not interested in cosmetic surgery said that the first nose was to the point of being excessive, while the second nose is a reasonably pretty cosmetic nose. I understand that there are people who get surgery for a nose like this, and from my own perspective it is also not bad and is a pretty nose.
But the problem is that it is still sharp, and although it is not as much as the first nose, it still has a somewhat artificial feeling. More than anything, I think the biggest issue is that it does not fit the overall proportions of my face. In particular, the columella angle is too steep and the tip is too sharp, which feels the most awkward. As for celebrity noses with a similar feeling, I think of Ju Ji-hoon and Lee Je-hoon, but even though the straight-line feel of the nose is similar for both of them, their columella angles are lower, so they do not feel that artificial. Compared with that, my nose seems to have a steeper angle when viewed from the side, if I had to put it that way. Personally, I think noses like Lee Seung-gi, Ji Chang-wook, and Song Kang have a natural look, especially when looking at the tip.
I rambled on and on, but the conclusion is: if I have removal surgery, can the tip also become moderately rounded and natural-looking? And from the standpoint of someone who has already had surgery twice, how complex or risky would the surgery be?
Thanks for reading this long post.
