My nostrils were originally big, and when I smiled, my nose looked even wider. After jaw surgery, it got worse. They were advertising that, unlike the simple thread-tie narrowing at other hospitals, this method fundamentally narrows the nostril position by repositioning it, so I went there for a consultation and had the surgery. I was curious about the exact method, but they didn’t explain it in detail, and judging from the dents on both sides of the nostrils, I think they also tightened them with thread. It seems they also made a vertical incision on the floor inside the nostrils, and although I’m not sure how they did it, there are also wounds on the upper dome side inside the nostrils, though I don’t know why. They said recovery to daily life would be fast, but in reality right after surgery my nostrils were pulled together as tightly as possible, so there was absolutely no way I could meet anyone bare-faced. After two or three weeks I could go out bare-faced, but for almost three months it felt awkward. When I talk or smile, my nostrils should spread naturally, but since they’re fixed from the inside, it’s not just awkward, it looks serious. Especially because the starting point of the nasolabial folds isn’t the boundary between the nose bridge and nostrils but begins below the nostrils, it doesn’t look normal. The surgery itself may be simple, but I think you should expect it to take about three months before it becomes natural. And since my philtrum was already long, pulling the nostrils together makes the philtrum look even longer. Of course, once enough time passes and it settles, it becomes almost fine. It’s been almost 4 years now and it doesn’t feel awkward anymore. Compared with before surgery, the reduction effect on nostril width when I’m at rest is about 5 to 10 percent, and when smiling it’s about 20 percent, and so far the effect has been maintained. Looking only at the result, I’m satisfied, but because they explained things so vaguely and the recovery period was long, this is not a surgery to take lightly.
