I felt that relying only on online research has its limits, so I picked a few places that were close to my house and had good breast surgery experience, then went in for consultations. Among them, this place was also closest to the conditions I considered important, and after the consultation it helped me a lot in setting my standards. First of all, they tend to check and recheck the schedule several times, both the day before and on the day of the consultation, which helped me, since I’m usually really scatterbrained and forgetful, to stay sharp. That system was nice. Also, when I first walked into the hospital, the first impression was good. There was soft music playing, and maybe because I had booked the first morning slot, there weren’t many people waiting, so the atmosphere felt calm and nice. The front desk staff greeted me brightly and explained things like reservation confirmation and chart filling in a slow, gentle way, so even though I had no consultation experience, I could quickly understand how the consultation process would go. At first I consulted with the manager, and what made me feel she had a lot of experience was that she explained things calmly without any weird power move or pressure, and she spoke in a composed way, but her diction was clear so I could hear her well. What I liked most was that she only explained the parts that really needed it, and helped me consult with the doctor about the important parts like the surgery itself, so even the sensitive cost-related part was explained plainly and ended there. I consulted with the manager twice, at the beginning and at the end, and between those times I spoke with the doctor. Honestly, my first impression was a little scary, but once I actually consulted, he was sweet. He asked me a lot of questions, and he was good at listening too, and especially since I visited with very little prior knowledge and almost no consultation experience, there were many things I had trouble understanding even when he explained implant differences and surgical methods. But the doctor seemed to catch that? He was the kind of person who explained things in a bit more detail, so I understood well, and it really helped me organize my thoughts on my own after the consultation ended.
