From the front, my nasal tip looked blunt and I also had a slight hump, so I was concerned. The hump and bulbous nose were not exactly severe, but since both were mixed together, in a way, I felt like it might be a harder nose to improve. Especially when I looked up reviews and posts, there were many people saying bulbous noses or hump noses are hard to improve in one surgery, and I also saw a lot of posts from people looking for revision surgery So before surgery, my biggest worry was not really the cost or anything like that, but mostly, “What if it doesn’t improve in one go?”
When I went for consultations at three hospitals I narrowed down through online research: 1. Autologous costal cartilage + silicone + osteotomy + alar base reduction <- The doctor said I could use donated costal cartilage if I wanted, but I got the feeling he preferred autologous costal cartilage.. 2. Donated costal cartilage + silicone + osteotomy + alar base reduction <- The hospital where I had surgery 3. Donated costal cartilage + silicone + alar base reduction <- The cost and surgical burden were the lowest, but when I looked at reviews, there were not many complex cases with both bulbous nose + hump nose,,
Those were the diagnoses, so honestly the third hospital was the least financially burdensome, and in terms of materials, I also preferred donated costal cartilage because of concerns about scarring and pain, so I did think about doing it there. But even if the financial burden was lower, if I had the surgery and the bulbous nose or hump didn’t improve, it would be pointless, so after thinking and thinking again, because I wanted to finish it with my first surgery, I ended up getting surgery at the second hospital (Saegim).
Also, since it was my first surgery, I searched cafes and the internet for things needed after nose surgery, and since a lot of people prepared things in advance, I bought them beforehand from places like Coupang,, To organize the things I bought and used:
1. Humidifier <- After nose surgery, it gets dry, so it is good to have one. Especially in weather like these days, it is essential. 2. Swelling tea, swelling medicine <- I bought pumpkin tea and Newvein swelling medicine on Coupang. I think they helped, but I’m not sure if the swelling improved greatly because of them. 3. Backrest cushion <- I bought it because they say it is better to sleep sitting up for a few days after surgery, and for a few days it was much more comfortable than leaning on something else, so I think buying one is not bad. 4. Disposable cotton swabs, gauze <- Cotton swabs and gauze were useful after surgery for changing when blood flowed and when I wanted to touch around my nose, so I think these were the most necessary. (You don’t need a huge amount.)
After nose surgery, I did not feel any major pain, and the only things were a pulling sensation at the incision area and, until the cotton inside my nose was removed, feeling stuffy, having a dry mouth, and breathing being uncomfortable lol It may vary by person, but I don’t think you need to worry too much about nose surgery,, lol
The swelling was at its peak until about day 3, but after that it gradually went down and got better. Especially at the one-week mark, when the splint was removed, I could really feel that a lot of swelling had gone down. Even after removing the splint, there was some discomfort because my nose felt a little numb and it felt tight when opening my mouth, but after a month, a lot of the swelling had gone down and much of the uncomfortable feeling in my nose disappeared, yeah.
Since I also had osteotomy and alar base reduction together, I was worried that visible scars might remain on my face, but thankfully there were no scars, and the surgery was not excessive. The hump and the blunt nasal tip naturally disappeared, so I’m happy. I think everyone doesn’t need to worry too much??
