I’m planning to have septal reconstruction using autologous costal cartilage, extending all the way to the nasal bridge and tip, but I found out that surgery might not be possible because of calcification. So I asked the hospital where I’m scheduled, and they said that even if I get an X-ray or CT before surgery, the result can be different once they actually open it up anyway, so testing is meaningless. They said that if, during surgery, the autologous costal cartilage is calcified and can’t be used, they either won’t be able to do the surgery or will use donated costal cartilage. It’s a hospital that has negative opinions about donated costal cartilage, so using donated costal cartilage also feels questionable, and if they cut into my chest and put me under anesthesia but then can’t proceed with the surgery, that seems like the worst-case scenarioㅠ I wonder if it’s possible to know properly through preoperative testing…
