Hello. This is my review now that it has been exactly about one month since I had two-jaw surgery and two contouring procedures: square jaw and chin tip. I had surgery at Y Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery near Nonhyeon Station, and I want to honestly write about what I felt while personally going through every step, from the first consultation to recovery. I hope it helps those who are considering two-jaw surgery, even a little. ---------------------------- Why I Decided to Have Surgery When I was young, I had a major injury to my philtrum and lips. Because of that, scars formed around my philtrum and lips, and I grew up undergoing several plastic and suturing surgeries. Thanks to that, my appearance recovered to some extent, but the words “asymmetry” and “scars” were always in the back of my mind. Every time I took photos, my philtrum and lips were the first things I noticed, and because of that, I honestly didn't even have the capacity to care about my overall facial structure or jawline. But at some point, as my lips recovered more naturally than before, this time I started noticing that my facial midline was not aligned. When I smiled, the midline of my front teeth was shifted to one side, and looking closely, my whole face felt slightly twisted. At first, I thought it was simply an orthodontic issue, so I visited a nearby dental clinic. I had a CT scan and received a diagnosis, but the result was more complicated than I expected. I was told, “Facial asymmetry developed because of a difference in length between the jawbones on both sides, and this cannot be corrected with appliance orthodontics; it can only be corrected with two-jaw surgery.” Honestly, I felt completely lost. I had the impression that two-jaw surgery was a risky, major surgery that I had only seen on TV. But I didn't want to live my whole life with this complex, so I decided to find a proper hospital. ---------------------------- The Hospital Selection Process and Why I Chose Y Oral At first, I searched Naver for ‘places good at two-jaw surgery.’ About 4 to 5 well-known hospitals came up in the search results. Among them, I narrowed it down to places that were close to my workplace and where I could have consultations after work. The first place I visited was Y Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery near Nonhyeon Station. The consultation fee was 30,000 won, but this was not just a simple consultation fee; it included a CT scan and facial analysis photography. Most importantly, if you proceed with surgery, this consultation fee is deducted from the surgery fee, so there was almost no practical burden. First, I had a consultation with the consultant manager, and I was impressed that she listened to my story from beginning to end from the start. She carefully asked me one by one what surgeries I had had until now, what part of my current face bothered me the most, and what direction I wanted. I immediately felt, ‘Ah, this isn't just a sales-oriented consultation.’ Then I had an examination with the director. After observing my face in great detail, he pointed out the problems accurately. He even noticed at a glance the subtle asymmetry in the areas where I had previously had surgery on my philtrum and lips. When I heard that, honestly, I was touched. Another thing that put me at ease was that before surgery, a guardian could directly watch the surgical process through CCTV, and recording was also possible. That means the hospital is that confident and transparent. That part really raised my level of trust. Actually, I had already placed a 30,000 won consultation deposit at another hospital. So for comparison, I went to one other place too. But in terms of the depth of consultation, hospital facilities, and staff response, there was a difference from Y Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. Even the price was almost similar. In the end, I thought, ‘If the amount is similar, let's do it at a hospital where I can feel expertise and trust,’ and that's how I decided on Y. ---------------------------- Surgery Day & Hospitalization Review Honestly, I was nervous until the day before surgery. But the director once again explained the entire plan step by step, and the nurses kindly guided me through the preparation process, so I gradually felt reassured. When I opened my eyes after anesthesia, the surgery was already over. I barely felt pain, and the hardest part was simply that my nose was blocked, making it difficult to breathe. They said two-jaw surgery does not touch the nose, but because of swelling and edema, the nose becomes completely blocked and breathing becomes difficult. I was hospitalized for two days, and the night-shift nurses took really meticulous care of me. They changed the cold packs at set intervals, and checked my blood pressure and heart rate, which made me feel reassured. It was difficult to sleep, but thanks to the medical staff, I was able to recover without major anxiety. Around day 3 after returning home, my nose started to open up very slightly, and using the prescribed Otrivin spray made it much more comfortable. Around day 5, the swelling reached its peak. My face in the mirror looked like Shrek, but I trusted the reviews saying ‘once you get past this period, it gets better,’ and kept doing compresses and walking consistently. I walked 5 km a day. Walking was truly the most effective for reducing swelling. ---------------------------- Recovery Period & Changes at One Month For the first week, I got by on patient meal drinks like New Care, and after that I moved on to soft porridge. It was really hard to eat because my mouth would not open well, but putting food into a sauce bottle and squeezing it into my mouth made it much easier. In week 2, the stitches are removed, and from then on, breathing becomes more comfortable, and you can sleep comfortably too. There was still a little bruising, but it did not interfere with daily life at all. Now I am one month out, and I am going to work without problems. People around me don't really notice unless I tell them I had two-jaw surgery. (Of course, they do say my face seems to have changed somehow!) The swelling went down faster than I expected, and my facial midline has become much straighter. Most of all, being able to smile more confidently than before, that is the biggest change. ---------------------------- In Closing If I had to summarize my experience at Y Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery in one sentence, it would be “a hospital I could trust from beginning to end.” - The director's detailed analytical ability and expertise - The staff's attentive care - The pre- and postoperative management system - And continuous treatment, including orthodontics, available at one hospital All of these fit together perfectly. I have now started orthodontic treatment, and as more time passes, I expect my facial line and expressions to become much more natural. Two-jaw surgery is something that requires a big decision for anyone. I was scared at first too, but now all I think is, “I really did the right thing.” If you are worried about asymmetry or your jawline, I definitely recommend having a consultation at Y Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery.
