Orthognathic 3-procedure surgery day to day 7 recovery log

I wrote this like a diary in my memo app while recovering from facial contouring, so please excuse the rough readability..! On day 10, I wore a mask and went to work today, and someone said I looked like I’d lost weight ㅎㅎㅎ Now it feels like all that’s left is to work hard on bringing the swelling down; I’ll probably write another review in about a month For reference, the pin sounds I mentioned in the review are gone now!

@Surgery day Before surgery, I had one last consultation with the director and finalized my facial design. Then the director, with a serious expression, held both my hands and said he would do his best to make me beautiful, and told me to cheer up with a “fighting!”-type message, which I was really grateful for.. I went to the operating room, lay down on the operating table, and before I knew it I was asleep; when I opened my eyes, I was in the inpatient room The surgery started at 9 and I was told I came out at 12:30. They said I came back in a wheelchair, but I have no memory of it at all ㅋㅋ I was the type who woke up fairly quickly, about 10 minutes after the anesthesia wore off My face feels completely puffed up. My lips are so swollen I can’t close my mouth After waking up and waiting a bit, I removed the gauze from my mouth and gargled The director, the anesthesiology director, and the chief administrator came by from time to time to check on my condition (so grateful, so grateful) When I looked in the mirror, I was so swollen, ugly, and unfamiliar that for a moment I thought, what did I even do… I’m not even going to be a celebrity, so why did I pay so much money to do this and chase some kind of luxury and glory.. that kind of regret Because of the anesthesia, I kept feeling dizzy I burped a lot, but I didn’t feel like I was going to throw up Around 2:30, the chief administrator brought me ice cream, and I ate it slowly, but because my mouth wouldn’t close properly I couldn’t even eat ice cream normally, which made me regret it again. On top of that, eating slowly made it melt and drip everywhere.. Still, I was hungry from fasting, so eating something sweet felt like a lifesaver Then I spent some time watching TV, and an hour later they brought pumpkin porridge It was a bit thicker than the ice cream, so it was actually easier to eat They said it was good to drink a lot of water, so I drank a lot and kept going back and forth to the bathroom Finally, I went back to the operating table and the director pulled on the support bandage and told me to feel my face line, and it was smooth The director looked really pleased and said he had truly done his bestㅎㅎ Where did all my bumpy, ugly bones go.. All the regret I had just felt faded a little.. Now it’s a war with the swelling After that, I came back, kept watching TV, and was discharged at 5 Once the dizzy feeling had completely gone away, it didn’t seem like same-day discharge was too much But my mouth wouldn’t close, so saliva kept dripping, and every now and then blood would flow out of my mouth, so I had a bit of trouble wiping it inside my mask. Good thing I wore a black mask.. When I got home, I had New Care, gargled, rested, then went for a walk and did cold compresses too. Since I felt okay, I moved around a lot

@Day 1 I had done cold compresses and moved around a lot yesterday, so the swelling had gotten pretty manageable, but after sleeping and waking up it had reset and gotten even worse They say days 3 to 4 are the peak, so that’s daunting I went to the hospital in the morning for disinfection and dressing, and the director checked me. He said this level of swelling was average I was worried because one side was more swollen, but they said it was fine as long as there wasn’t any special increase in pain or discomfort, so I felt relieved They told me to move around as much as possible and talk a lot too The chief administrator said my mouth should open enough to fit one thumb, so I opened as wide as I could and it barely fit. My mouth opened faster than I expected, so I guess I’m recovering quickly Then I got a swelling injection, had a high-frequency laser treatment, and even had my hair washed, which felt refreshing 흐흐 For lunch, I ate pumpkin porridge after cooling it in the fridge, and it was much easier to eat than yesterday During the day it was hot, so I spent the time at home with the air conditioner on and kept doing cold compresses, then after the sun went down in the evening I walked for about 2.5 hours and felt my face getting lighter But I think I can shower, yet I have no idea how I’m supposed to wash my hair

@Day 2 Woke up and it had reset.. even more swollen.. unfair Since I was sleeping with a high pillow, I couldn’t sleep deeply and woke up every 2 to 3 hours, and when I looked in the mirror then, I was a pufferfish I repeated short cold compresses and going back to sleep The throat pain is better than yesterday, but it still hurts when I lie down or get up, or when I use my neck and back muscles to lift myself. The pain when swallowing saliva or being touched has lessened For lunch I ate red snow crab porridge, and after finishing it all deliciously, I started wondering whether the bits I felt in my mouth were thread or crab meat, and thought I might have made the wrong choice In the evening I ate tofu egg scramble, and unlike before, I suddenly heard ticking pin sounds from the right cheekbone The post-op instructions said sounds can happen but should gradually disappear, but I still felt anxious, so I texted the chief administrator in charge. It was Sunday, but they replied in 4 minutes.. I was really touched They reassured me that it can happen during recovery and that they would check it on the CT, so don’t worry, and my anxiety melted away Somewhere I’d heard that castella soaked in milk is delicious, so I tried it, and it was soft and so tasty, amazing Since they said days 3 to 4 are the swelling peak, I went for a 2 hour 50 minute walk today in hopes of reducing it even a little. But unlike yesterday, walking didn’t reduce the swelling afterward as much My voice is back to normal, but my throat is swollen too. The pain when pressed has gone down. I hope tomorrow is less swollen..

@Day 3 Fortunately, I was actually less swollen this morning than on days 1 and 2. So now it’s just about letting it go down? Please let that be true As the hospital instructed, I stopped cold compresses today and could finally brush my teeth with a children’s toothbrush, but I was as careful as possible because I was afraid of touching the surgical site. It feels so refreshing. I’d been unable to brush my teeth and felt miserable from the grime At lunch I ate porridge and heard the pin sounds, but I’m trying hard to ignore them.. I hope there’s no real issue. I think I’ll only feel at ease once I get the CT done and hear a definite answer quickly It was too hot to go outside, and since I no longer needed cold compresses, I put on the acupressure slippers I bought before surgery and walked around the house. I figure moving around in any way is better than nothing I hadn’t been able to wash my hair since the hospital washed it for me on the morning of day 1, so it got oily and itchy, and today I challenged myself to do it alone. I put waterproof tape on my sideburns and washed as carefully as possible so the water wouldn’t touch them. It doesn’t feel completely refreshing, but it’s definitely better. I’ll wash it again on the day I remove the tape..

@Day 4 It doesn’t seem like it’s swelling any more now, but I’m not really sure it’s going down either.. When will I be able to get out of this hamster look? Until yesterday there was nothing, but today I noticed bruising had come up. There’s a yellow bruise around my left eye and a green bruise on the cheek beside the left side of my mouth, so I look like a spoiled potato. And my neck has turned yellow all over, like I smeared curry powder on it Today my iPad Face ID unlocked! It hadn’t worked since surgery, but now it does ㅋㅋㅋ The stitches near the lower molars on both sides turned a little red, maybe from mouth ulcers or food residue, and it hurts. Is it because they keep touching my molars? Today I finally hit 20,000 steps! 20,000 steps is not easy. My legs hurt like crazy. I want to peel off the tape so badly that my face is itchy

@Day 5 I woke up in the morning and had a little pain in my right cheekbone, which made me a bit scared. The left side had been more swollen before, but now the right side seems to be more swollen. The swelling feels no different from yesterday.. is this actually going down? Since I’ve been eating mostly soft foods, and bread, sweet things, and mildly seasoned foods, I’ve been craving spicy, salty, strong flavors so badly. Ugh Today while gargling, a few stitches came out. I guess that’s because they’re dissolvable stitches. They were on the lower right side, and after a few of them came out, the tight feeling in that part of my mouth seemed to ease a little?

@Day 6 While I was sleeping, maybe I talked in my sleep, because my right jaw hurt so much that I woke up briefly. It’s okay now, but it’s okay, right?ㅜㅠ When I gargled, a lot of the stitches came loose. Today was the day to remove the tape, so after showering I soaked it as much as possible while scrubbing my hair refreshing clean. Still, it hurt a little to peel it off. The adhesive is insane. They said the sticky residue could be removed with oil remover, and it worked, but there was so much residue that it was a bit hard to clean off After removing the tape, the lower area feels a little heavy. It’s nice that when I go out now I don’t have to shove a hat all the way down and can just wear a mask. The swelling is still very full, so my face feels puffy like a Chucky doll. My lips are pursed and tiny

@Day 7 Today I had the stitches removed. Most of them had dissolved, so only one or two stitches were left, and those just stung a little. The sideburn area came out without me feeling anything at all. People say stitch removal hurts a lot, but I guess I was lucky. They said both my sideburn area and inside my mouth were clean, so I felt relieved. I did walk a lot for a whole week, but the swelling is still so fullㅠㅠ so I’m a little upset. While waiting for the consultation with the director, I got a swelling laser treatment. Then in the consultation, we checked the surgical results and CT, and I asked the questions I’d been wondering about, so the anxious points were resolved. Everything gets solved with time..~ I’m grateful they said they would keep taking good care of me until the end. Now all that’s left is to get rid of the swelling ㅜㅜ
