Escaping My Complex About a Long Face and Protruding Mouth! 6-Month Review After Double Jaw Surgery

My long face, protruding mouth, and broad, large-looking face were such a major complex for me that I eventually decided to have double jaw surgery. I had consultations at several hospitals, but Director Kim at Iyoo Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery gave a very detailed consultation and treated me sincerely, so I felt I could trust him. In the end, I had the surgery there. Day 1 after surgery Maybe because I had general anesthesia, I felt extremely nauseated. It was much worse than an ordinary hangover, and I stayed up all night vomiting blood all day. At that time, the nausea was so severe that I did not even have the chance to feel any other discomfort. Days 2-3 From the second day, maybe because the anesthetic gas had cleared out, the nausea almost disappeared. Since I could not sleep lying down, my lower back and hips hurt, and I had so little strength that I staggered on the way to the bathroom. Still, breathing was okay thanks to the humidifier. Days 4-6 As breathing gradually became easier, hunger became the biggest pain. My face hurt as if a truck had run over it, and the swelling was severe, so I kept applying ice packs. I still had a little bloody sputum, but breathing through my nose became much easier. Every time I looked in the mirror, I worried a lot, thinking, “Once the swelling goes down, will the face I really wanted actually appear?” Weeks 1-2 The swelling started to go down little by little. Breathing became completely comfortable, and I could feel that my face had become smaller than before. Chewing was still difficult, so I only ate soft foods. Week 3 to 1 month The swelling went down very slowly. The bruising around my eyes was still there, and as my mouth began to open little by little, I became able to chew soft foods. Even so, my face still looked swollen like a chipmunk. Month 2 To make the swelling go down faster, I ran 4 km every day. Maybe it worked, because the swelling definitely went down a lot. People around me also said a lot that my face had become smaller. I also started orthodontic treatment, so I could really feel the changes beginning in earnest. Month 3 Now only minor residual swelling remained, and I could chew most foods. My smile was still a little unnatural, but there was almost no discomfort in daily life. Month 6 After finally reaching half a year, I really changed a lot. Friends I met after a long time asked whether all the swelling had gone down and said my face had become completely smaller, to a surprising degree. Now almost all discomfort has disappeared, and my face has settled naturally. When I look at before-and-after photos of my double jaw surgery, my jawline looks cleaner than before, my mouth has moved inward, and overall my face looks smaller and more balanced. Maybe because I have also been exercising consistently, the swelling seems to have gone down faster. Now I have completely adjusted to life after double jaw surgery, and every time I look in the mirror, I think, “I really made the right decision.” I really think it was a good choice to have the surgery with Director Kim at Iyoo Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. They say the remaining minor swelling will continue to go down until the 1-year mark, so I plan to keep exercising consistently and take care of myself.
