Ever since I was young, I had orthodontic treatment, a facemask, and other treatments because of my underbite, but it did not improve. At the orthodontic clinic, I was told that once I grew up, I would need double-jaw surgery to improve it. Because it was such a major surgery and the cost was also huge, I thought my parents would definitely be against it, so I had never told them that it was stressful. But when a family member I had not seen in a long time said, “Was your jaw always this protruded?”, I finally told them for the first time about all the hurtful things I had heard so far and that there was a surgery like this and I wanted to do it. They told me to first get consultations, so after getting consultations at a total of 4 places (3 oral and maxillofacial, 1 plastic surgery), I had a re-consultation with my parents at the clinic I liked best, Y Oral Surgery, and then had the surgery! All 4 places said I was a double-jaw case, and among them 3 said contouring of all 3 areas was also necessary. Director Lee Seok-jae at Y Oral Surgery said it would be best to do the square jaw and chin together, and that my cheekbones were fairly prominent so it would be better to do them too, but since it was my own choice, I should think carefully and decide. The reason I chose Y Oral Surgery was, first, the atmosphere. Because it is a private clinic, it felt very private, and everyone from the consultation manager to the nurses(?) was kind and the atmosphere was comfortable, so I felt it would be the most comfortable place to stay well even though I had to be hospitalized without a guardian! The second reason was honesty! First of all, I liked the fact that the surgery CCTV was shown to the guardian in real time during surgery, and I was glad that they explained all kinds of side effects in such detail. Also, when I said what kind of appearance I wanted after surgery, they explained in detail which parts would be difficult and why, which I appreciated. After consulting alone, I went back for a re-consultation with both of my parents, and even then they explained in detail to my parents, who knew nothing about surgery, how the surgery would proceed, what I would look like afterward, the side effects, and more. <Before surgery> Double-jaw surgery, contouring of all 3 areas! Before surgery, I went in a total of 3 times for consultations, re-consultations, internal medicine tests, and wafer fabrication, and until surgery I ate a lot. ◡̈ As for what to bring, as stated in the 안내 message they sent before surgery, I packed sauce containers, extra underwear, a charger, sleep socks, and a hat. Other things I brought and used were a mask, an outer layer, cleansing water, soothing pads, a phone stand, and feminine tissues. Things like a donut cushion, neck pillow, tissue, and humidifier are almost all available at the hospital, so you do not need to pack them! <Surgery day to discharge> I arrived at the hospital in the morning, was guided to my hospital room, organized my things, changed clothes, listened to the director explain the surgery plan and the manager explain the consent form, and then went into the operating room! After lying down on the bed, I fell asleep after the last thing I heard was, “I’ll take a quick look at your teeth(?)” Honestly, the first day was such a blur that I do not remember it well, but when I woke up I was sitting on the hospital bed, my phone was connected to the charger and placed right in front of me, and on my face there was a compression band and cold pack, in my mouth a drainage tube, and in my nose something to help me breathe. As for the urinary catheter, I did not even realize it was connected until they told me in the evening that it would be removed the next morning.. I had read a lot of reviews before going, and most said it was more uncomfortable than painful, but for me the pain was worse than the discomfort.. It hurt so much that I wondered whether I was even getting the painkiller injection, and on the first day I kept pressing the bell and asking when they would give me pain medicine, which I felt sorry about... Looking back, it was a surgery where they moved and shaved bone, so it would be strange if it did not hurt. But then again, I had gone in after reading only blog and cafe reviews saying it did not hurt, so I think I really expected it to hurt not even 1 bit ⫬⫬.. Anyway, after the surgery the director came by and told me about the progress of the surgery and said today would be really hard, but we should try to get through it. The manager also told me she had contacted my mother and explained the surgery situation! (My parents could not come because of work, so before surgery I had asked the manager to please make one phone call after the surgery was finished.) Because I have severe rhinitis, I was worried about nasal congestion and phlegm, but there was almost no nasal blockage and the phlegm was fine too! From the evening of the surgery day until the morning of the second day, it was really lol.... pain + discomfort + a tailbone and butt that gradually started hurting + a machine making beeping sounds, so it felt like an environment where you absolutely could not sleep, and I think I repeated sleeping for 10 minutes and waking up for 1 hour. By the time I was regretting for the hundredth time why I had done the surgery, it was the morning of the second day. The nurse removed the urinary catheter and temporarily took off the tightening band and ice pack I had been wearing since right after surgery, and that was when I first looked in the mirror and saw my face after surgery and was truly shocked.. My long, wide face had become a short, round, cute face. Once I checked myself in the mirror and the urinary catheter and drainage tube were removed, the thought of “Why did I even do the surgery?” disappeared immediately. You really just have to endure one day! Of course, the next few months after surgery are hard too, but the truly painful part seems to end on that day. After the drainage tube was removed, I practiced wearing the wafer with the director and received swelling laser treatment! Starting that day they gave me New Care, which I drank, and I finished both of the two they gave me and even asked for one more on discharge day. Because I had to do physically demanding work two months after surgery, I tried especially hard to focus on recovery, and since the director told me to walk around inside the hospital, I walked around diligently! Also, when I got injections, the vein pain was really severe, but each time I got painkiller injections, the nurses massaged my arm and adjusted things to make it hurt as little as possible while injecting slowly. Also, I had a fever in the evening, and they changed the ice packs more frequently and kept checking to see whether the fever had gone down, taking care of me. On the second day, I slept and woke up in 30-minute cycles, but still got much more sleep than the day before! On discharge day, I woke up in the morning, wiped my face once with cleansing water, brought down the heat in my cheeks with cooling pads, packed my things, had a brief conversation with the director, got swelling laser treatment, received one last painkiller injection, and was discharged. On the way out, I bought the largest-size vegetable porridge from Bonjuk and took a 20-minute walk near my house in the evening. Coming home definitely made me feel at ease, so I was comfortable, and because my nose was open, it became easier to breathe too~ <After discharge ~ 1 week> Every morning, noon, and evening it was just a repeat of eating and taking medicine, and I thought the medicine would be pills, but it was powdered medicine, so it was painful every time I took it.. It had a kind of herbal medicine taste? Grass taste? And because the weather was hot, I only walked in the evening for about 30 minutes to 1 hour. I normally exercise a lot and was confident in my stamina, so I thought I would be physically okay after surgery too, but once I fainted when I got up from lying down, so after that I received close care from my parents.. When getting up, always get up slowly while holding onto something next to you! When I went to the hospital to check my progress after one week, I got IV fluids, swelling care, and had the cheekbone stitches removed, and the cheekbone stitch removal did not hurt at all! <1 week ~ 2 weeks> During this time it was the same repeat of eating, medicine, compresses, and walking, and since the manager said I had to eat diligently, I focused on soft foods that I could swallow smoothly, like silken tofu, steamed eggs, porridge, and so on, in addition to New Care! When I went to the hospital in the second week, they removed the stitches inside my mouth, and unlike the reviews, it did not hurt as much as I expected, so I was fine. If you have a low tolerance for pain, it will hurt a lot.. After the stitches were removed, I got IV fluids and swelling laser treatment! Also, the lower left area still had not fully healed, so I got an extra week's worth of medicine. The swelling had clearly gone down compared with days 4 and 5, but my nose swelling, philtrum, and chin tip were still quite puffy~ Right after surgery, maybe because my face got smaller, my nose looked unbelievably huge, and although I already had a fleshy nose, it became even more pig-like, which made me very depressed. But now, one month later, it is gradually returning to my original nose, and as for the chin tip, I asked the manager and director about the muscle tightness, and they said it would gradually get better if I kept doing warm compresses diligently~ <2 weeks ~ 1 month> From this time on I had a bit more energy to go out, so I went shopping, went to the hair salon, and moved around briefly but often. One day I was out all day, and because I pushed myself too hard, I came home with a slight fever, so I rested well for 2 days and tried not to overdo it after that. After the stitches were removed in the second week, the swelling went down quite a bit, and the lines that had not been visible started to show little by little. But I still looked so ugly because of the swelling that I was very depressed, and I think I endured it by looking at other people’s reviews..! Rather than thinking, “Why did I do this surgery?”, I kept thinking, “This is all swelling; once it goes down I’ll look pretty,” and I diligently did mouth exercises, warm compresses, the tightening band, walking, swelling medicine, and so on, and ate everything I could without being picky. It seems many people struggle because of food after surgery, but since I did not originally eat spicy or salty food, I could handle it. Still, losing the pleasure of chewing was... Ah, and I did not originally snore, but for about 2 weeks after surgery I did snore, and now it is gone. Until 2 weeks, I think I slept sitting up. Since there is a reclining sofa at home, sleeping sitting up was not that uncomfortable, so even now, on days when I think I may swell a lot because I am tired, I sometimes sleep sitting up! <1 month review> On day 30 after surgery, I went to the hospital for my one-month checkup, had dental imaging and X-rays, and then had a consultation with the director. They said the swelling had gone down by about 30 to 50 percent, and that I could now remove the wafer and live without it, which made me so happy. The wafer was not that uncomfortable, but because of speech... That day I tried makeup for the first time, and it still hurt a little when I patted on cushion foundation! And from then on, they said I could chew soft foods, so as soon as I got home I chewed and ate custard and risotto. It felt awkward, but I could chew! The day I am writing this review is day 33, and after the chewing ban was lifted, over 4 days I tried various foods such as Salisbury steak, jajangmyeon, and roasted chicken, and I could chew much better than I expected, so I thought I would be able to eat like before surgery pretty soon! And on day 31 I met a friend, chatted, and went to karaoke, and there were pros and cons. Because I moved my mouth a lot, the tight feeling inside my mouth improved a lot after that day, but from the right ear to the molar area it hardened and felt like some kind of inflammation, so I told the manager and director, and they said it was not a clear sign of inflammation and that it could happen when I was tired, so let’s watch it for a few days! <3 months> Right now, except when eating, there is no discomfort in daily life. Maybe just a slight tightness in my mouth when I wake up in the morning?? Because I had unavoidable circumstances, I started exercising from the second month, and there were no issues! (Still, please be sure to ask the doctor!!!!) From the second month to the third month, it seemed like the swelling was unchanged, but in the third month the gum screws were removed and the swelling has been steadily going down day by day. I lost almost 10 kg after surgery and have kept it off well, so I think the swelling is coming down quickly too! People around me keep saying my face has gotten smaller and prettier, so I feel good every day! People who meet me for the first time do not know I had surgery! It is that natural The pain is gone now, and I think sensation has returned to about 70 percent!! The lower jaw area still feels heavy and blunt, but I think that will gradually improve if I keep doing warm compresses and mouth exercises more diligently. Looking back now, I wonder why I did not do it sooner, and if I went back, I would definitely do it again!!!
