Hello It has been 1 year since I had double-jaw surgery and 2 types of facial contouring (square jaw and chin) at Y Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery! In elementary school, I received orthodontic treatment for malocclusion and a protruding jaw, but as I grew, the protruding jaw plus asymmetry developed. During my school years, I was teased for my protruding jaw, and I really disliked how I looked in side-profile photos. So I would try not to take photos, or I would cover my chin when taking photos from the front. After becoming an adult, my temporomandibular joint also got worse, so my jaw would dislocate, and because of the asymmetry, I would often bite the left side of my tongue while sleeping. But after finishing college, I got a job right away and was working, so although I wanted surgery and was interested in it, I did not have time to look into it. It got to the point where I actually felt good about wearing a mask during COVID. After getting married and having a baby, I took photos while watching my baby grow, but in reality there were many photos of my husband and baby, and none of me. So before it got any later, I decided to at least go for a consultation, and while looking on YouTube, I found out about Y Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. After much thought on the day of the consultation, I booked the surgery date right away. After the surgery, strangely, I had no pain. Rather than pain, it was just a stuffy feeling because of the swelling. Because my mouth was tied shut for 2 weeks, it was hard not being able to eat, but I think taking medicine was the hardest part for me. As I got through each day, the swelling went down noticeably day by day, and by about a month later, even the faint bruising was all gone. From one month later, I started orthodontic treatment, and by around 6 months the swelling had definitely all gone down. With orthodontic treatment, my teeth also came to fit together well, so now I sometimes completely forget that I even had surgery. Writing this brings back vivid memories from a year ago. After surgery, my biggest complex disappeared, so I think I gained confidence too. Before surgery, I used to worry that someone beside me might look at my jaw. Now I do not think about that at all, and my temporomandibular joint also improved after surgery, so there is no jaw joint sound anymore. People around me also say a lot that my face has become smaller, that my face looks softer, and that I look much younger. Even if I could go back, I would choose the surgery again, and I do regret not doing it sooner, but I am living satisfied with how I am doing well now without surgical side effects. It has been one year, so if you have anything you are curious about, please leave a comment!
