Disadvantages of autologous costal cartilage

It’s not harvesting bone; it’s harvesting cartilage. It’s the same as ear cartilage. The lower ribs aren’t connected to the sternum and are floating, and that part that attaches them to the sternum is cartilage. What material has absolutely no other side effects? lol It’s just that because it’s your own tissue, inflammation or rejection is lower. The downside is that it’s hard? They say some people have it become a little less hard over time... but this depends on how hard the cartilage is, so it varies by person... What it means when donated costal cartilage gets absorbed is, if you search for donated costal cartilage removal, you’ll see that it degenerates and becomes soft and mushy... Naturally, it can’t support the internal structure like before either... Autologous costal cartilage is not completely non-absorbable either, but it doesn’t become totally mushy like that, so if revision surgery is done, it’s often reused.

I had my first surgery with autologous costal cartilage, and I don’t think autologous costal cartilage means there are no side effects. I think it’s just luck. It’s easier on the mind if you think every surgery has side effects. I’m looking into revision surgery.

[@솜구름연이] They said the revision would be done with donated costal cartilage + silicone. For the first surgery, I had autologous costal cartilage harvested and did it without silicone. My nose didn’t hurt, but the harvest site hurt like hell. It’s been about 7 years, and for the first few years it was okay, but then my nose gradually dropped and became ugly.

Every material is bound to have pros and consㅜ I don’t think all the way up to Made Young only uses autologous costal cartilage either.. Maybe you can go for consultations, compare it with donated costal cartilage, and then decide?

Autologous costal cartilage requires general anesthesia and takes a bit longer to recover from? There can be rib pain too.. But once you recover, those things are nothing. The goal is for the surgery itself to go well, so when I fixed my nose at Jeongwon, I also used autologous costal cartilage.. I felt like absorption with donated costal cartilage was too much of a risk ㅠ

I think the biggest drawback may be the burden of having to make an incision and harvest itㅜ It was my first surgery and I used autologous costal cartilage at Made Young, but the incision size was smaller than I expected, and they sutured it extremely meticulously, so if I diligently apply scar ointment, I don’t think I need to worry about the scar. Personally, I don’t really know of any particular drawback.

Honestly, autologous costal cartilage is better than donated costal cartilage.. Using my own has a clearer source than using someone else’sㅋㅋㅋ... I used donated costal cartilage and my nose got completely botched, then this time I had revision surgery with autologous costal cartilageㅇㅇ If you’re going to use autologous costal cartilage, Louvre seems good because the scarring is minimal and they seem skilled,,, But nothing is completely free of side effects, so look into it carefully before doing it.
