<Before surgery><Before surgery><Before surgery><After surgery><After surgery><After surgery>Hello I had double-jaw surgery and two types of facial contouring surgery (square jaw and chin) because of severe asymmetry and malocclusion. The concerns I always had were my jawline and bite issues. Every time I looked in the mirror, I could see the asymmetry, and when taking photos, I was very bothered that my jaw looked shifted to one side. It wasn’t only cosmetic; chewing was uncomfortable, and I was often told that my pronunciation was unclear, so I think my confidence dropped a lot. Especially not being able to smile freely in front of people was the biggest stress. I was really careful when choosing a hospital. It was such a major surgery, and the cost wasn’t small, so I went to consultations at several hospitals. The biggest reason I ultimately chose Y Oral & Maxillofacial was that I had built trust by steadily watching their videos on YouTube for a long time. They weren’t simply advertising videos; there was a lot of content showing actual surgical cases, patients’ recovery processes, and the doctors’ explanations, so I thought, “I could trust this hospital.” When I actually had the consultation, the professionalism and thoroughness I felt in the videos came through exactly, and they honestly explained the expected results and recovery process, so I became certain. After the consultation, I actually felt more relieved than nervous. I had anxiety from thinking only in my head, wondering, “Am I trying to have a major surgery for no reason?” But when an expert accurately identified my condition and suggested a treatment direction, a lot of that vague fear disappeared. I liked that they honestly talked about the surgical process, recovery period, and expected discomfort, and I also related a lot to the feeling that “I’m not the only one with this concern.” As for what changed after surgery, since I’m only one month out, it’s hard to feel all the dramatic changes yet, but one thing is clear: I’ve gained confidence in my appearance. As the swelling gradually goes down and I see my facial line becoming more defined, looking in the mirror has become much more enjoyable than before. It was also fascinating to see my jaw finding its proper position as my bite aligns. However, chewing still isn’t completely free yet. I have to mainly eat soft foods and avoid hard foods. Still, my temporomandibular joint doesn’t hurt or feel uncomfortable like before, so my anticipation that “it will keep getting better” is growing. When people around me say, “Your face looks much softer,” that is a big comfort. The recovery process was not easy. Right after surgery, the swelling was severe, and there was pain and discomfort inside my mouth, so for several days I had to eat almost only porridge or thin rice gruel. Now that a month has passed, the major swelling has gone down a lot, but minor swelling and limited mouth opening still remain. Still, I’m consistently doing cold compresses, oral care, and diet control, so I can feel that I’m gradually improving. Especially while recovering, I newly realized “how patient a person I am.” Looking back, double-jaw surgery feels like a process that changed not only the shape of my face but also my attitude toward life. I’m not fully recovered yet, but my mindset and confidence are already much better than before. When the swelling goes down more and the time comes when chewing feels natural, I think I’ll become even more certain that it was a choice I don’t regret.
