I have a really severe open bite.. But annoyingly, it falls just short of the insurance criteria, so if I wanted two-jaw surgery, I’d have to pay for everything myself. Basically, I’m someone cursed with an awful lower face. At first, I thought it was a dental problem, not a jaw problem, so I went to a local dental clinic and started orthodontic treatment when I was in 10th grade. Back then, the doctor was ridiculously confident, saying he was the best at orthodontics in the neighborhood or whatever, and that with my case, it would easily be done in 2 years or so. So my foolish mom and I signed up there, thinking all dental clinics were probably more or less the same. The orthodontic treatment that they said wouldn’t even take 2 years ended up taking over 3 years, and I had the braces removed a bit forcefully in time for starting university overseas. The funny thing is, they said I didn’t need a retainer ㅋㅋㅋ Ah, thinking about it now, it’s unbelievable, but they said I didn’t need a retainer. They said I didn’t have to wear one ㅋㅋ Of course, I didn’t know anything, so I just thought, “Nice, I guess I don’t need a retainerㅎㅎ amazing,” and left it at that. Then, two months after getting my braces off ㅋㅋㅋ my open bite started coming back at a terrifying speed. During vacation, I went back to Korea and consulted the doctor, and he said this much relapse always happens ㅋㅋ At first, he said he had actually pushed the teeth in more than necessary, so even if they came out a bit, it would still be okay or something like that ㅋㅋ Ah, that crazy guy. Then he told me to come back the next year. Looking back now, I think he somehow wanted to get through the 1-year period where he would have had to fix it for free. The conclusion is, I now have an open bite again, and as the open bite relapsed, gaps appeared where the 4 teeth I had extracted during orthodontic treatment used to be. I tried to get re-orthodontic treatment, but now they say the only option is two-jaw surgery ㅋㅋ They say re-orthodontic treatment isn’t possible. So everyone, find a good clinic and look into things carefully before getting orthodontic treatmentㅎㅎ If a doctor says things like you don’t need a retainer, just avoid them.
