■ Reason for surgery: Hi. First, I’m in my mid-40s. There were many reasons I decided to have surgery. 1. My nose was so uncomfortable. This was something I felt exactly on the day of surgery 25 years ago. If I had known it would feel like this, I wouldn’t have done it.. I was young then and had no information, so I didn’t know. 2. My nose looked exactly like a piece of chalk from the front... so I absolutely hate taking photos. 3. As I got older, only my nose stood out. My nose was the only part that didn’t seem to age, so it looked even sharper, and since I had no facial fat, I felt like I was starting to look older. 4. A ticking time bomb: I was tormented by anxiety because I didn’t know when it would “go off,” so I tried to avoid anything related to plastic surgery side effects involving my nose. That’s because I would think about it so much that I couldn’t sleep for days. ■ Why did I only have surgery now?: 1. Lack of information: I think I had been thinking about removal for more than 15 years. Then was I okay for about 10 years? No. It was hard.. But back then, even the term silicone removal itself was unfamiliar, and I didn’t know about it... 2. Work and living outside Seoul: For autologous dermis surgery, you need to be able to visit the hospital every day for about 3 days after surgery to receive treatment for the surgical site. And since I live outside Seoul, there was distance involved and difficulties related to work. 3. Burden of changes in appearance: I didn’t have inflammation. And at my age, hearing comments about having had plastic surgery felt like a huge burden. I think I was so scared because I had already experienced my face feeling different once before. 4. Financial burden: In any case, it costs quite a bit, so I think I was a little more cautious. But at this age, I had never even bought a luxury bag, and I realized I had never properly invested in myself.. And even though the expense is at a plastic surgery clinic, it’s still medical expenses.. medical expenses for myself.. So I’m not even envious of luxury bags, and I really wanted to remove the silicone and live without contracture. So I think of it as having received a luxury nose as a gift. ■ Surgical process - First stage and second stage done together: took a total of 3 hours. - Arrived at the hospital => signed the surgical consent form => moved to the recovery room and changed clothes => washed my face => consultation and design with the director => IV injection => first, dermis was harvested from the buttock => second, silicone removal and revision surgery with autologous dermis ♣ I was very nervous, but there was no pain at all. I could hear the director and nurses talking from time to time, so I felt groggy, fell asleep a little, and then the surgery was over. It wasn’t that I slept because of anesthesia; I was tired because I had been tense for several days. ■ Treatment process 0day: Moved to the recovery room, rested, then moved to my accommodation and rested 1day: Removed the splint from the surgical site, removed gauze inside the nose, disinfected the surgical site, and got a buttock injection => examination by the director 2day: Since it was Sunday, I took the antibiotics given by the hospital twice a day and rested at my accommodation 3day: Disinfection of the surgical site and removal of visible stitches on the nose area + last buttock injection => examination by the director 4day: Disinfection of the surgical site => examination by the director, then went back home. 8day: Removed all stitches inside the nose and on the buttock, looked at the before-and-after surgery photos together with the director and manager, and had the final examination Scheduled to visit again in 2 months: Whether I’ll get a dermis injection or pass on it will be decided after the director’s examination ■ Things I’m satisfied with 1. Even though there was gauze inside my nose on the first day after surgery, my nose felt so clear, light, and comfortable. 2. Even when wearing a mask, my nose doesn’t get pressed at all, so it feels like a whole new world. 3. I was worried about daily life, but it doesn’t feel awkward at all. 4. They designed the shape almost exactly the same as when I had silicone, so other than it being slightly higher, there is nothing particularly noticeable. 5. The buttock wound is healing very quickly and causes no problems at all with working. ■ If you’re considering autologous dermis? I had surgery in my 20s. With silicone, back then I didn’t know what kind of aging I would experience when I reached my 40s. My nose shape was fine too. But as I passed through my 40s, I strongly felt like my nose was separate from the rest of my face, and it looked very obvious that I had had surgery... After living with silicone for 25 years, calcification had progressed, and the skin around my nose had also turned red because of the calcification. When I touched it, there was a bumpy feeling that only I could notice. And decisively, from certain angles, my nose looked slightly crooked. The nasal tip became hard too.. But when I had the consultation, they said that over time, as things sagged downward, the silicone had moved down and had nowhere else to go, so it was touching the nasal tip (the bottom), which made it look crooked... They said it would eventually pierce through the skin. After hearing that explanation, removal was the answer, but if I only took it out, contracture would come again... But if I was going to put something else in again, why would I spend money to do that? So I wanted to go through this process once in my lifetime and sleep with peace of mind. If you’re also 고민ing over it, I hope you make a careful decision about surgery with your whole lifetime in mind. And there’s a saying that worrying only delays delivery, right? For now, I recommend starting with a consultation. It’s not only doctors who need to know about autologous dermis; patients need to know too. Here, the surgeon explains the surgery I would be receiving for 1 hour and 30 minutes. It was the first time I had ever seen a hospital like this. I came by train because I live in the countryside, and I had to hurriedly change my train time because of it. I listened for an hour and a half, and then they examined my nose... You know how when we go to hospitals, there are things like patients’ rights and responsibilities. After hearing the explanation here, I thought, “Ah, this is what it really means for a patient to know about the medical care they will receive and have the right to choose.” And I had surgery a month later, but when the time actually came, I was anxious again.. But after changing clothes, in the consultation room, the surgeon again explained the surgical method, possible side effects, and so on. I had heard it a month earlier, but honestly, you can’t remember everything. But because they explained it again, this time, rather than trembling, I became determined. When you don’t know the knowledge or details, you naturally feel more anxious. But because they explained it one more time, my anxiety decreased and my trust increased. I’m recovering well, and finally, I hope everyone’s surgeries go well...
