[1-Year Review After Double-Jaw Surgery] Double-Jaw Surgery After 10 Years of Worry,…

Hello! I am someone who is exactly 1 year out from double-jaw surgery. I had gotten a lot of information from this community for a long time and read reviews carefully, so I am leaving a review in the hope that it can help someone too haha Since my early 20s, I had a big complex about my appearance because of a protruding lower jaw + uneven dentition. I hated smiling in front of people and taking pictures, and my personality gradually became more passive. People around me often said I looked cold or blunt emerhdyb I considered double-jaw surgery at least once, but at that time I gave up because of the cost and fear. Then time passed, and I started thinking, if I have worried about it for over 10 years like this, doesn’t that mean it is something I really want to do? So I looked into it again and decided to have surgery! I really researched hospitals a lot. The three things I considered most important were a hospital that works well in connection with an orthodontic dentistry department, a hospital where the director communicates directly and shares information well through YouTube and other channels, and a place that felt trustworthy during consultation. EU Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery fit those conditions exactly. After the consultation, I immediately thought, this is the place! and went ahead with surgery. I could visibly see the swelling going down, and after the stitches were removed, the discomfort dropped sharply. As the nerves came back, the inside of my mouth tingled, and they said this was evidence of recovery. Daily life is almost not difficult, and changes in my appearance also started to show gradually. Months 2-3 A lot of the swelling went down and my facial shape became defined, so many people told me my impression had changed. My speech became natural too, and I could eat almost everything haha From this point on, my quality of life really changed. Months 4-6 The facial swelling was almost gone, and most of the sensation had returned. The braces were still uncomfortable, but once I got used to them, they were okay. When I look at old photos, I often surprise myself because I look much better now.  Months 7-10 There were almost no outward changes, but subtle changes in the jawline, mouth sensation, and so on continued. When I smiled, I felt a slight left-right difference, but it is gradually improving as I practice. By around this time, orthodontic treatment also enters the final stage, so the facial line is stable. Months 11-12 It has almost completely settled, and more than 95% of the sensation has returned. I am scheduled to have my braces removed around September, and I am really looking forward to it. I often hear that I look much younger than before surgery, and I also often hear that my impression has become brighter. As one month, then two months passed, seeing my face change day by day gave me a lot of confidence. Now smiling feels natural, and taking pictures is enjoyable haha I am still undergoing orthodontic treatment, but I feel the overall framework is complete, and my stress about my appearance has almost disappeared. Since I worried about this surgery for 10 years… I really understand how people who are debating it now feel. But I hope you will not hesitate for too long like I did. Of course, choose the hospital carefully! And if you decide while taking into account the recovery period after double-jaw surgery, I think you will be able to get really good results.
