Double-Jaw Surgery Reviews

Why I heard people say my jawline was “insane” = after double jaw surgery at an oral and maxillofacial surgery clinic…

Since college, I was very stressed because my side profile and facial angles looked so different in photos. I thought it might be because of my jaw, so I had a dental consultation, where I was diagnosed with Class III malocclusion and was recommended double jaw surgery. I was told that orthodontic treatment alone could align my teeth, but my jaw itself might end up looking even more protruded, so I decided to have double jaw surgery + facial contouring surgery. A dental clinic in Gwangju recommended 3 hospitals that were good at double jaw surgery, and after comparing reviews and surgical results, the oral and maxillofacial surgery clinic felt the most trustworthy, so I went up to Seoul and had the surgery done! [Day of surgery] I entered the operating room at 10, and when I opened my eyes it was around 4. There was almost no pain compared with what I expected, and breathing was comfortable, so I wondered, did I really have double jaw surgery? But by evening, it became hard to breathe because of a runny nose + nosebleed, so I could only sleep in short 1-hour stretches. [Day 1] After the tube was removed, I looked in the mirror for the first time, and thankfully the swelling was less than I expected! I took a light walk inside the hospital, New Care tasted amazing, I also received swelling laser treatment, and my condition recovered a lot haha [Day 2] After intraoral disinfection, I was discharged. I could not get used to nasal suction, but after doing it, breathing became much easier. I tried porridge, but it was hard to chew, so I blended the porridge in a blender and spooned it up to eat. For now, when I lie down, nosebleed + phlegm still flows back, so I am sleeping in short stretches in a zero-gravity chair. [Day 3] Swelling at its peak. My face looked like it had gained about 3 times the weight lol. Still, the frequency of nosebleeds decreased and breathing became easier, so I could sleep for 2-3 hours at a time. I successfully tried soft Greek yogurt and a milkshake! I thoroughly managed my mouth with a Waterpik. [Day 4] The swelling went down slightly, and the bruising around my eyes faded. I could have simple conversations with people and also make phone calls. I also handled work at the community service center and even tried a 1-hour round-trip walk! I am definitely recovering little by little! [Day 5] Swelling remained at its peak. Still, the nosebleed stopped, and facial tenderness also decreased. [Day 6] My jaw contour started to show little by little!! haha I think continuing to sit in the zero-gravity chair worked well!! I also tried putting on makeup for the first time and slightly tried lying completely flat haha [Day 7] The swelling around my eyes went down a lot, so if I wore a mask, it was hardly noticeable that I had surgery!! I blended beef porridge until it was like thin rice gruel and ate it, and also had yogurt + sugary foods. The nosebleed completely stopped!! [Week 2] My face was plump as if I had fat grafting, but the jawline was gradually becoming more defined >< My mouth opened about two fingers wide. I visited the hospital to have the stitches removed, and it hurt less than I expected. I also went to work and could live without wearing a mask! For food, I could manage eating rice mashed into soup. [Week 3] Most of the nasal swelling went down, and only the “candy swelling” remained. It did not feel awkward to walk around without a mask. For soft foods like steamed egg, even if I chewed a little, there was almost no pain in the maxilla. When brushing my teeth, my upper jaw also felt firmer than before, and the unstable feeling in my jaw disappeared. [Currently 1 month] This was the point when people around me said the surgery had gone well. The swelling had gone down a lot, and I started orthodontic treatment at the dental clinic. It is still uncomfortable to chew food, so I eat regular meals but exclude hard foods like cubed radish kimchi, and cut things into small pieces with scissors before eating. Still, chewing has become less uncomfortable. The corners of my mouth have lifted a lot, and when I open my mouth, about 3 fingers can fit. I have recovered so much in just one month that I sometimes forget I had double jaw surgery, so I am satisfied! At first, I thought the early stage after surgery would be very scary and difficult, but recovery has been faster than expected, and thanks to systematic care, my satisfaction is growing as I see my face change day by day. If you are concerned about correcting a protruding lower jaw, asymmetry, Class III malocclusion, or facial line, I think it would be good to seriously consider surgery with Dr. Shin Hee-jin at the oral surgery clinic :)
