Around my second year of middle school, my jaw gradually started protruding, and I often heard that my impression had changed a lot. Even though I originally wasn’t very interested in my face, hearing people around me say they felt sorry for me made me start caring more and more. After COVID, I became increasingly dependent on masks, and eventually, after finishing the CSAT, I started orthodontic treatment thinking I would try to solve it with braces alone. But even though the malocclusion improved to some extent, I just couldn’t get the “jaw looks set back” feeling I wanted.. So I started considering double-jaw surgery, and I looked up so many reviews of hospitals in Seoul said to be good at double-jaw surgery. While searching mainly for places that were safe, had no accidents, and had stable results, I found EU Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery. Director Kim Jong-yoon’s explanation, designing for each patient rather than simply pushing a trendy face shape, was so impressive and different from other hospitals that I decided on EU Oral Surgery right away! On days 1-2 right after surgery, the dizziness was severe and I felt mentally foggy, so even going to the bathroom was hard, and swallowing water or New Care was difficult On day 3, the dizziness got a little better, but I still had no energy, and the sleeping position was so uncomfortable that I missed the hospital bed,, haha On days 4-5, the bruising around my eyes and swelling were still there, but I started swelling care by walking and doing light exercise, and the compression band was too stuffy, so I took it off when sleeping. From days 6-7, I could feel my recovery speeding up little by little, and in week 2, after suture removal and becoming able to put on and take off the wafer, eating and brushing my teeth became much easier. In week 3, I returned to daily life, and porridge and risotto were no problem, but regular rice still made me cautious. As a postoperative aftereffect, I still had a little ear fullness, but it didn’t really interfere with daily life! At 1 month, rather than a dramatic visible change, it felt like I had entered a stable period. I kept taking walks regularly and continued swelling care. At 2 months, I could eat almost everything except tough foods, my facial expressions became much more natural, and sensation in the roof of my mouth, which had been numb, started coming back little by little!!! As for the swelling itself, it didn’t look very different from month 1 on the outside, but when I touched it with my hand, it still felt soft. At 3 months, I could open my mouth and chew well enough to eat hamburgers and regular meals without much difficulty, and the swelling is going down very slowly. People around me still say I look a little swollen, so in my case I think I’m the type whose swelling lasts a long time. I managed it by walking almost every day, but in the end I think you just have to trust time and keep going steadily. I know that part varies a lot by person, so I really think reducing swelling is a battle with time!! Anyway, now that I’m passing the 4-month mark, deciding on double-jaw + contouring surgery was definitely not an easy choice, but I’ve heard a lot that my facial shape itself now looks more stable and refined. My impression is definitely softer when I smile, and now I’m satisfied enough to go out without a mask without feeling uncomfortable or embarrassed. Functionally, the parts that were lacking with orthodontics alone improved much more after surgery, so I really feel that choosing this path was the right decision! This is my 4-month review, and I’m once again grateful to Director Kim Jong-yoon for performing such a successful surgery at EU Oral Surgery, which I found through lots of searching!!!
