At first, I simply went to the dentist for orthodontic treatment, but during the consultation they said I was a case that needed two-jaw surgery, so I suddenly started thinking about it. Instead, my face was more swollen, so the discomfort was still there. It was even harder because I couldn’t eat. Now if I just waited until week 2, I could have the stitches inside my mouth removed too. At week 2, I had the mouth stitches I had been waiting for removed, and the swelling went down a lot, so I felt much freer. At week 3, the wafer changed to a removable type, and the swelling had gone down enough that I could go around without a mask. My friends were surprised and reacted well, so I felt good too. I really looked forward to the week 5 visit. At 1 month, almost all the major swelling was gone, but I think the visible change was definitely biggest up to week 3. I was just counting the days until the appliance removal day. At 2 months, a lot of sensation had returned and my mouth opened better, so the foods I could eat increased dramatically. But instead, I ate so much that I couldn’t tell if I had gained weight or if the swelling had gone down. At 3 to 4 months, I could definitely feel that the swelling had gone down more. In particular, the discomfort inside my mouth was almost gone, and it felt like if I just increased my exercise more, the remaining fine swelling would all go down too. So from then on, I started exercising again. At 5 months, there wasn’t much external change, but the sensation inside my mouth had really returned a lot, so I was so happy that there were no restrictions when eating. I can fit three fingers in without difficulty! At 6 months, aside from fine residual swelling, it seemed like all the major swelling had gone down, and I felt very grateful that I was recovering without pain or inflammation. At 8 months, my orthodontic treatment is almost finished too, and I have no discomfort at all when eating, so I’m satisfied. I’ve been eating so well because of that, and I’ve gained so much weight that I couldn’t even have imagined it before surgery. Overall, there were difficult moments, but as time passed, I definitely felt things getting better.
