The doctor’s first impression during the consultation didn’t feel unfriendly, but they did feel a little blunt. It wasn’t a very warm, friendly atmosphere. But when I consulted again right before the surgery and carefully said, “Doctor, please make it pretty,” they smiled and said they would do a good job and not to worry, which reassured me. During the consultation, the doctor said that reducing each side by only 3 mm would be enough. I had always been stressed about my nostrils being big and long, so I wondered if reducing them by just 3 mm was too little and asked if they could be reduced more. They said that because the nostrils are skin, if you reduce them too much it cannot be reversed, and that over-reducing is a bigger problem than under-reducing. They also said that if I was dissatisfied, aftercare would be possible for one year, so they recommended reducing them moderately. I went ahead with 3 mm on each side, and I think I was right to listen to the doctor. In the end, the flared appearance of my alar area and the look of large nostrils improved moderately, while still looking very natural, so I’m satisfied. Even though I was worried and nervous, there was almost no swelling at all. I followed the hospital’s instructions and applied the ointment properly, so now there is almost no scar left either. To other people, it looks completely undetectable, and even I can only tell by holding a mirror close to my bare face and looking carefully that this is the surgical area. My skin might be good, but I felt that the doctor performed the surgery neatly and delicately even on a small area. The hospital facilities are clean, and the consultation manager was reasonably friendly. After the surgery, they removed the stitches on day 5 and also scheduled a follow-up visit after that, but I was satisfied after the stitches came out and there were no issues. The scar wasn’t very severe from the beginning and kept fading, so I got lazy and never went back for follow-up. The cost is also on the cheaper side, and overall I was satisfied, but there is one thing I really want to emphasize. I do not recommend this for people who expect a dramatic effect from alar reduction alone. Alar reduction, as the name suggests, is only a surgery that makes the alar area a little smaller and the nostrils a little smaller; it is a surgery that creates very subtle differences and is done for self-satisfaction. Those few millimeters will never dramatically transform the nose. If your concern is that your nose is broadly bulbous and large overall, alar reduction alone will absolutely not make the nose small. And, of course, it will not raise the height at all either. My nose itself is small, but compared with that, my nostrils were large and long horizontally, which made me unhappy because it looked old-fashioned, so I had the surgery. So only that exact issue was improved. It is still a small, low nose, but the parts that made it look broad-nostriled, old-fashioned, and a bit dated were improved, so I’m satisfied. I think you’ll be more satisfied if you clearly identify exactly what part of your nose bothers you before getting the surgery.
