I had always been bothered by my protruding cheekbones and lower face, even though they didn’t cause any problems in daily life. My teeth didn’t have severe malocclusion; my upper and lower teeth just met edge-to-edge. I had already decided that I would get cheekbone contouring someday, and I first started orthodontic treatment thinking I at least wanted my jaw to move inward a bit. But about a year into orthodontics, I realized there were limits to what braces could do, so I decided to get double-jaw surgery and facial contouring at the same time. While looking into hospitals, I had a consultation at Yang Yoon Dol Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. I chose it because I heard it’s better to get double-jaw surgery at an oral and maxillofacial surgery clinic rather than a plastic surgery clinic. Anyway, I think it’s important to go to many consultations and choose the place that suits you. What I felt during the consultation was that the director wasn’t exactly a very warm and friendly type. But he was the type to speak as objectively and directly as possible about my facial shape and the expected postoperative results, so I chose this hospital. I had double-jaw surgery plus three types of facial contouring. On the day of surgery, I remember lying on the operating table and being told anesthesia was starting, and when I woke up, the surgery was over. I was hospitalized for 2 nights and 3 days after surgery. The pain wasn’t extremely difficult because they gave me painkillers and such, but because my nose kept bleeding, my nose was blocked and it was hard to breathe properly. I think the stuffiness was really hard. The week I spent at home after being discharged was hell. It was hard to breathe, I kept having a fever, and I think that was the hardest period. Maybe it would have been okay if I had managed my condition well before surgery, but because of night shifts and things like that, I couldn’t take good care of myself, so I think it was even harder. Everyone, if you’re getting surgery, take good care of your condition!! After about a week at home, the pain settled down somewhat and breathing became smoother, so it became livable. But from then on, I was really stressed because of the swelling. The swelling went down at different speeds in different parts of my face, so I spent every day worrying whether the surgery had really gone well, constantly thinking about it and getting stressed. The conclusion is that swelling really just needs time, and all you can do is wait. Now that about 3 months have passed, the volume on both sides is almost even, and the effect is definitely visible to my eyes. I had asked them to make it as natural as possible rather than reducing too much, and I’m really satisfied with the result. However, my cheekbones were originally asymmetrical, and my temples are quite sunken due to my facial structure, so they still feel somewhat prominent. But for now, facial contouring surgery needs at least 6 months of follow-up, so I’m going to wait and see. I hope this review helps everyone, and since it’s a major surgery, I hope you consult carefully and decide.
