Hello! On March 13 of this year, I had double-jaw surgery + two types of facial contouring surgery (square jaw and chin) with SSRO at Y Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery! It has now been about 3 months since the surgery, so following my previous review, I’ll share how things have been since then :) First, when about 1 month had passed after surgery, I visited the clinic for a progress check, and finally started the long-awaited orthodontic treatment. I had seen other people’s reviews saying orthodontic treatment was extremely painful, so I went in very scared, but thankfully it really did not hurt at all.... Of course, since my mouth muscles had not fully recovered yet, it felt a little uncomfortable when they put their hands in my mouth and forced it open to connect the orthodontic appliances, but it was not very painful. I think it was probably because the wounds inside my mouth healed fairly quickly and well. They also said I needed time to adjust to the orthodontic appliances, so they first attached the appliances only to my upper teeth (except the very back teeth on both sides), and said they would attach them to the lower teeth later. After all the appliances were attached, I received instructions on precautions, got the necessary items such as an orthodontic toothbrush and wax, and happily left the clinic. But..... about a week after that.... all of a sudden, in the early morning, I had an insane nosebleed. It really kept flowing for about 30 minutes without any sign of stopping, as if someone had turned on a faucet. I judged that the situation seemed serious, so I called the emergency number written on the instruction sheet I received when I was discharged after surgery and explained the current situation. They told me not to worry too much and to insert gauze as deeply as possible to stop the bleeding, so I did exactly that, and the nosebleed soon stopped. I was fine until that morning. But when I kept having frequent nosebleeds again that evening and the next afternoon, I thought this would not do, so I visited the clinic and had an examination. The director said that the test results did not show anything particularly abnormal, and although nosebleeds are common right after surgery, it is rare to have nosebleeds even after one month has passed, but it is not that strange. That relieved my worries a little. Then I took some medication to help stop the bleeding, and fortunately, since then until now, I have not had a nosebleed even once. I am not sure of the exact reason, but I think it was probably due to fatigue that had built up in my body after surgery..... Anyway, after getting through that one incident, I had the appliances attached to my lower teeth not long afterward (again, they did not attach them to the very back teeth on both sides). It did feel awkward, but I did not feel major discomfort. Around one and a half to two months after surgery, I could definitely open my mouth wider than before, and now even when I yawned freely, I did not really feel jaw pain. Also, once I started orthodontic treatment, I felt like my teeth were gradually fitting together better, and eating became easier. Of course, I still have a long way to go, but at this point, it feels like the really difficult period has now passed. Unless the food is very hard or tough, I can now eat most foods. When about two and a half months had passed after surgery, I visited again for my two-month progress check and had orthodontic appliances attached to the very back teeth. They also changed the wire and tightened? the teeth that needed more force, and with the teeth where the appliances had been tightened more, I felt pain when they touched to the point that I could not chew food with them. I think it was probably because, since they received a lot of force, even the roots of the teeth were affected, but it hurt so much that for the time being, I got through it by taking painkillers after meals. It has now been 3 months since surgery. Recently, during my progress check, I looked at photos from before surgery and one month after surgery, and I was so satisfied that I thought, “I really have changed.... I’m so glad I had the surgery....” Honestly, until then, when I looked in the mirror, I had thought there was not really much that had changed, but when I compared the photos, I could clearly see the difference. Since the swelling has not completely gone down yet, my current appearance probably is not the final form(?), but I am really satisfied even with how I look now, so I am spending very happy days. Now I do not really feel pain in my teeth even without taking painkillers, so I am eating almost all the foods I want. These days, it feels like the weight I lost quickly right after surgery is coming back..... Also, recently I have been meeting friends and acquaintances for the first time in a while, and every time I hear that my face looks smaller or that I look more handsome, I think I would have regretted it if I had not had double-jaw surgery. I will continue to be patient and endure for a better future ahead. Until the day I can chew baked squid and frozen chocolate.... Thank you for reading my long review!
