Since I was young, I started orthodontic treatment because of malocclusion, and I had such a big complex about my face shape that I always avoided taking photos. Even when I dieted, my face looked large, which stressed me out a lot, and with my wedding coming up next year, I wanted to leave pretty photos, so I decided to have facial contouring and two-jaw surgery! On day 1 after surgery, breathing was the hardest part. Because of phlegm, I kept feeling nauseous and kept waking up while sleeping, but thanks to the pain-control injection and sedative injection, I gradually stabilized. The two-jaw surgery area itself was not as painful as I expected! On day 2, the blood drains were removed and I also received laser treatment. I struggled because of phlegm, but I focused on swelling care while using ice packs and walking. Even swallowing water was difficult, but I tried hard to recover. On day 3, the swelling increased more, so my face was quite swollen. It was hard to fall asleep because of a runny nose, and because I was biting on the wafer, the stitches inside my cheeks were pressed and painful. Still, swallowing water and New Care became a little easier, so I saw hope! On days 4 to 6, I got used to swallowing liquids, but even foods like soft tofu or steamed eggs were hard to eat. The bruising stayed the same, and the swelling inside my mouth lasted longer than I expected. They told me to refrain from using ice packs, but I was so swollen every morning that I used them once or twice. On day 7, I focused on reducing swelling by taking walks for 1 to 2 hours a day. I still had discomfort when swallowing saliva and my throat was swollen too, but I could feel that I was gradually getting better. From this day on, I could sleep lying down, so I was so happy! In week 2, I had the cheekbone stitches removed, took out the wafer, and changed to pin elastics. It was definitely much more comfortable than the wafer! The swelling was going down slowly, and there was a slight difference between the left and right sides of my face, but it was not a big problem. It hurt a little when the stitches were removed, but I heard swelling goes down better after removal, so I’m looking forward to it! In week 3, there was no major change in swelling, but the sound in my ears when swallowing saliva bothered me. I looked it up and heard it usually gets better within 1 to 2 months, so I’m waiting. I’m still only eating porridge and liquids, so meals have been a little difficult. Today, at 1 month, I had my 4-week progress check at the hospital! I also had radiographs and photos taken, and looking at the photos, there are still many swollen areas, but it has improved a lot compared with before. They also removed the pins in my gums, and I was surprised because it didn’t hurt at all! I don’t have to wear the elastics anymore either, so it’s much more comfortable. I hope things stay well like this so I don’t have to do orthodontic treatment! The past month has not been easy, but I am satisfied as I watch my face change little by little.
