It has been roughly 3 years now since I finished orthodontic treatment. I got braces because of facial asymmetry and a recessed chin, and Director Jung Jae-an is such an honest person that he said I did not need orthodontic treatment! Still, after getting orthodontic treatment, my facial line became more defined and my recessed chin improved a little, so I am very satisfied.
To tell you a few downsides of orthodontic treatment: 1. Pain -> screw insertion, wire replacement On the day the screw was inserted, I had much worse pain than other people, so I took medicine and lay sick in bed. The next day I was fine as if nothing had happened, but on the day itself it really hurt so much. Wire replacement is okay at first, but later on when they tighten it toward the back, it goes wiiing~~~. It is okay when staying still, but when eating, it hurt so, so much that I only ate soft foods.
2. Food debris getting stuck in the braces When eating, all kinds of things got stuck between every part of the braces, so it was uncomfortable when eating with friends. After eating, my routine was to go straight to the restroom and check whether there was any debris in the braces..
3. Continuing to wear retainers even after orthodontic treatment ends I had a total of 4 premolars removed, so I wear both removable and fixed retainers every day. The upper jaw is fine, but the lower jaw has such a strong tendency to relapse that if I do not wear the retainer for a few hours, the spaces between my teeth open slightly right away. The clinic said this much is okay, but meat keeps getting stuck in the gaps, so if possible, I wear it all day.
From the moment you start orthodontic treatment, there are various discomforts you never experienced before. Still, I do not regret it. My appearance improved a little compared with before orthodontic treatment! If you are planning to get orthodontic treatment, please think it through carefully before doing it!!
