Hello. Around last summer, I posted about the condition of my nose, and I was desperate to have everything removed. Then I thought, “Whatever, this is too much hassle, even if contracture happens, I’ll just live with it.” Then people around me kept asking if it wasn’t becoming too pointy... At that point I looked in the mirror, and I saw that my nasal tip had really become so pointy it looked like it might break through, so I thought I couldn’t just leave it alone. From late October this year, I started going around to clinics and had reconstructive surgery.
Before surgery, my daily routine was simply waking up in the morning, opening this community, and checking what posts had been uploaded that day. Seeing people here every day who were in the same situation gave me comfort, and seeing people who had reconstruction or removal gave me hope.
But among the people here trying to do complete removal, there seem to be some for whom it could be risky... so I’m writing this in hopes it may help even a little.
First, briefly, for those who had surgery only with silicone + ear cartilage!!! Or Gore-Tex + ear cartilage, something like that. Those who had surgery with an implant + their own cartilage without hump reduction or osteotomy, if it feels too uncomfortable and artificial and you want it removed, I think it may be okay to simply remove it. As long as you are not already in a state of contracture.
However... those who had shaving or osteotomy and then had an implant placed need to consider carefully if they simply remove it, because the nasal bridge has already been shaved down (broad and flat). Even more so if contracture has also occurred in that state,.
Another concerning case is when the nasal tip has been raised too much. In this case, because the tip is raised very high, there are cases where it may become wrinkled and shriveled after removal, they say. Because what had been pulling it tight disappears, you know.. In this case, most would likely be people who used donated costal cartilage. Since costal cartilage can raise it high. Or maybe septal cartilage could also be possible. It is hard, after all. It can raise the height too.
People like this should not simply remove it, but should have reconstruction.. ㅠㅠ If you recklessly think, “I want it out, I want it out quickly!!” and then the shape of the nose, the most important part of the face, gets ruined, that would be so sad, wouldn’t it. I also never wanted surgery again, so because I wanted to get rid of the contractured nose + donated costal cartilage and silicone time bomb, I had intended to only remove this nose. ㅎㅎ For my first consultation, I went to a clinic famous here for removal. I went for a consultation because it was famous here as a clinic that only does removal, but they did not tell me at all that it was risky. They said it was a very simple surgery, and did not tell me what could happen to my nose afterward. I almost could have had only removal there and fallen into despair. .
After that, I couldn’t trust private clinics, so I went around to 5-6 university hospitals, and I went both to hospitals with famous professors and, just in case, even to places with professors who were not famous.
There was a reason the less famous university hospital was not famous. After seeing the condition of my nose, they said they could not readily say they would operate. They said it was difficult. It was not something they could guarantee.. At the other famous university hospitals, they all said the same thing: (considering the current state of my nose: I had osteotomy, shaving, a lot of septal cartilage used, and donated costal cartilage currently raised up as much as possible) They looked at the CT and said there was no septal cartilage lol Ear cartilage would not be nearly enough, so let’s go with autologous costal cartilage. Two of them said that was the only answer (both were famous doctors). One said they might be able to gather dermis and ear cartilage to use, but if that didn’t work, they would cut autologous costal cartilage. (This was scarier. How many places would scars be left in, seriously..) Based on the opinions of the university hospitals like this, in my case, complete removal would have been a serious problem. Even if I wanted removal only, my nose was a nose that needed reconstruction.
For noses that have been operated on this much, please absolutely do not do removal only!!!!! Do not recklessly go to a clinic famous here for removal, listen to the director, and have surgery.. Please study, go to enough consultations, and then decide.. After reading the nose removal forum board for several days, I really wanted to leave a post. However! For noses that have not been manipulated much (+ noses without contracture), removal may allow you to return to your original nose^^
So after going around to all the university hospitals, with the help of someone from this community, I was introduced to a few private clinics run by doctors with extensive reconstructive experience. I went for consultations at those clinics and decided on reconstructive surgery.
Originally, I had made a reservation for February with Professor J at YS Hospital and was waiting. I thought autologous costal cartilage was the only answer, but both doctors with extensive reconstructive experience said that because I did not have very little septal cartilage, it would be possible with ear cartilage, so I had it done at one of those two clinics. On top of that.. the wait at university hospitals was too long.. and if I waited, I felt like my silicone might pierce through my nose, so I had it done at a private clinic. . Right now, I am very satisfied with the result. If you look at my old post, you’ll know.. my nose was a total disaster.. It had donated costal cartilage inside.. contracture had developed,, the skin on the nasal tip had become as thin as it could get and everything was showing through, and the nostrils were completely sharp triangles with se. vere. a. sym. me. try!!
The timing of receiving that message was truly incredible ㅠㅠ I am really grateful to that person. I was distrustful of private clinics when I received the message, so I thought they might be a broker and wasn’t going to go, but when I searched those two clinics, the consultation reviews were good. I couldn’t find many surgery reviews though. So I was anxious, but as expected, once I had the consultations, I got a feel for it. I trusted them and had surgery!! The ironic thing is lol I was told the waiting time at YS Hospital would probably be moved up sooner, so I waited intensely for a call for two weeks, but it never came. Then on the morning I was going to have reconstructive surgery, they called. They said there had been a cancellation that Thursday and Professor J could do the surgery. ㅎㅎ ㅠㅠㅋㅋ I almost ended up with a scar under my chest~~~! So I told them to cancel my appointment with that professor, hahaha I also felt pointlessly excited hehe I’m not doing it with you guys!!!!!
So everyone who is about to undergo reconstruction ㅠㅠ Please, please look into many consultations and think carefully before doing it, since it is the center of your face.. Studying is absolutely necessary. You need to know the condition of your own nose well tooㅠㅠ That way, after surgery, there will be no reason to blame someone else, right? ㅠㅠ It doesn’t feel like someone else’s problem. There are still many people worrying and people who don’t know what to do,, stay strong and fighting. Let’s think of this as a really valuable life lesson and live positively. !!! I hope everyone with surgery ahead or planning surgery does not suffer a loss. Let’s study thoroughly and prepare thoroughly! (Record consultations) Fighting :)
Oh, right. I don’t think I can provide information. I didn’t write this post to give information, but to write that recklessly removing everything is not necessarily good.. I’m sorry. ^^ Both doctors at the private clinics are well-known in reconstruction. Really, some people do well and some people fail.. Someone else’s surgery went well = mine will go well too That is not how it works, so I thought it might cause harm. They are both doctors who give very sincere and thorough consultations. They also had a high level of understanding of my nose. The difference between the two is whether dermis is used. Also, the prices at the two clinics differed quite a lot. (About 1.5 times) Still, it was not 8-9 million won like the university hospitals.
Also, the shape I was pursuing was not a dramatic look.. I had really let everything go and thought I would be happy if it could at least become a normal-looking nose, but as a bonus, the shape turned out so pretty too. Because I personally experienced that a dramatic nose eventually develops side effects..^^
