Inflammation after revision surgery::
About 4-5 months after my revision surgery, the Medpor (artificial bone) support placed between the columella caused inflammation. (Pus came out and the smell continued.)
The hospital treated it and said it had healed completely, but even though I kept having a smell and yellow nasal discharge for about two months, and even went to an ENT clinic (university hospital), they said there was nothing abnormal. The plastic surgery clinic where I had the surgery also said the inflammation treatment was complete, so I left it alone. Then another plastic surgery clinic said it was definitely inflammation,
so I went back to the hospital where I had surgery and asked them to remove everything.
The hospital suggested removing only the problematic Medpor piece, but because I was anxious about not knowing what might happen later, I asked for complete removal.
I am having it done for free at the hospital where I had the revision surgery, not a removal-specialized hospital, and I am also supposed to receive a refund for the surgery fee.
I had surgery 10 years ago.. revision surgery 7 years ago, only nostril lowering 4 years ago, and revision surgery again this May. My original nose was a bit short and not quite an upturned nose, but because the alar rims were short and my nostrils showed, it looked like an upturned nose.
About the removal::
The doctor was very worried because no one knew how my nose would change after removal.. (Honestly, when I first went for a consultation, I got scared when he said the stress after removal might be even greater, so I just came back. The doctor said he would think carefully and do what the patient wanted, but.. that made me even more scared....)
Then after hearing from another hospital that it was definitely inflammation, I just made up my mind firmly and decided on removal.
I do not know... For now, I decided on removal, and since I have had it removed.. I will watch how it goes.. As long as severe contracture like Michael Jackson's nose does not happen, I plan to live without stressing over it.
The nasal bridge has gone down a lot, and when I touched it lightly (on the evening of surgery;;), it looked like it was filled with fluid. Today they pressed down really painfully, hard and repeatedly, removed the blood, and said they would put on a splint, so I got the splint. I received an antibiotic injection and 3 days' worth of medicine.
The nasal tip still seems more intact than I expected, but it definitely feels lifted. Probably after the splint is removed and all the stitches are taken out (Oh, they said they would do closed rhinoplasty removal, but would open depending on the situation.. and it turned out they removed it with an open approach), I will probably get depressed, right?
Still, I will try hard to keep posting reviews.
When the stitches are removed next week, I will try to leave another fairly detailed review.
