I had consultations with ㅇㅅㅅㅇㅌ and Professor ㅈㅎㄹ, but honestly I still don’t really have a feel for where I should have the surgery, so I’m posting this. In the end, the choice is mine to make, but I still want to hear some adviceㅎㅎ If you were me, please take a look at which place you think would be better and leave a commentㅠㅠ For reference, I’m currently 4 months post-op, and this was my first surgery. Silicone 4 mm, and both the support strut and nasal tip are donated costal cartilage. Both places I consulted with said full removal. Oh, and the hospital where I had the surgery said they barely rasped the nasal bridge, so it wouldn’t show much, but you never know..
ㅇㅅㅅㅇㅌ Plastic Surgery, Dr. ㅅㅅㅇ
First of all, he was really calm and spoke quietly. Maybe because the place where I had surgery felt like a business, but the contrast was really noticeable..
When I asked the hospital where I had surgery what I would look like after removal, they said that once everything was taken out, my nose would spread and droop. But Director ㅅㅅㅇ looked at my pre-op nose photos and said he didn’t think it would droop, and that I should actually be more worried about it becoming upturned.
He said removal is usually done when there is inflammation, hardness at the nasal tip, a foreign-body sensation, or anxiety, and in cases where removal is being considered because of foreign-body sensation or anxiety, surgery is considered when those two issues feel bigger than the shape concern. He showed and explained on the computer what it looked like before removal, during surgery, with removal only, and after cartilage repositioning.
Surgical method:
Rasp and smooth the nasal bridge where it was rasped and became uneven Nasal tip: cartilage repositioning ㅡWhen I asked what happens if the alar cartilage is severely damaged, he said the goal is removal first, so he would remove everything and then do as much as possible with cartilage repositioning in that state. He also said cases with that much damage are rare.
Local anesthesia, sedation anesthesia
My nostrils became uneven after surgery. They look uneven from below and also from the front.. The right side is kind of pinched upward, or anyway it’s more visible from the front, so I asked if he could match them, and he said he would match them as much as possible.
Also, there is a slightly raised bump near the columella side of my right nostril, so I asked about it, and he said it seemed like scar tissue. Since I don’t currently have any complications, he said there’s no real need to undergo removal surgery, and that he couldn’t guarantee exactly what I would look like after removal. He told me to think about it and come back.
I left without asking the costㅠ
There was no consultation fee!
Dr. Jin ENT Clinic
First, he said my nose had been raised way too much, and that anyone could tell it was a surgically done nose.. He also said that even when viewed from below, the proportions of the nostrils and the height above them don’t match at all, and that it was a botched surgery. He said silicone can’t be kept for life anyway, and at most it would be twenty or thirty years.
When I asked what would happen after removal, he smiled and asked, “How would you like it to turn out?”
My dad asked if he could draw even a simple picture of what it might look like after removalㅋㅋㅋㅋ and he actually drew itㅋㅋㅋ.. He drew the current shape, then subtracted the silicone height from that drawing and said that once the nasal tip was adjusted, it would look like this, basically just lower than the current appearance..? The drawing itself was vague, soㅠ pass.. I’m only mentioning this because I thought it was kind that he drew it for us^^
Surgical method:
Fill the rasped and uneven nasal bridge using ear cartilage and septal cartilage from inside the nose Nasal tip cartilage repositioningㅡif cartilage repositioning is not enough, ear cartilage
He said the degree of upturning can be adjusted with cartilage repositioning, and that it can return to something similar to before.
General anesthesia..(ㄷㄷ)
He said he would revise the scar/scar tissue near the columella side of my right nostrilㅡI didn’t mention this, but when he looked closely at my nose like an ENT exam, he said it first.
After the consultation ended, I went to another consultation room next door, and a nurse summarized everything for me. She said the professor had mentioned smoothing the nasal bridge with ear cartilage and septal cartilage, and cartilage repositioning for the nasal tip, and that the cost would be six million won. She asked whether I wanted to set a surgery date and things like that, but since I only came for a consultation for now, I left without setting a date.
The consultation fee was 20,000 won plus the exam fee, so it came out to a little over 20,000 won.
Yonsei seemed a bit more conscientious in the sense that they said they couldn’t say for sure what the result after surgery would be, but Professor Jin may be saying it can return to something similar to before because he has the skill.. And since Dr. Jin used to be at a university hospital, somehow it feels like his skills might be better.. At Yonsei, they rasp and smooth the nasal bridge, so after removal they don’t put anything in.. But at Dr. Jin, even though I didn’t bring it up first, he noticed the incision scar near the right side of the columella/right nostril looked bad and said it should be revised.. I really don’t know where I should do itㅠ
