Nose Re-Surgery@rhino-redo

It’s been about two months since removal

It had been about 5 years since my rhinoplasty, and I had the silicone and ear cartilage removed through an open approach (no capsule removal). In my case, I didn’t remove it because I had inflammation or any particular side effects, but because I disliked the possibility of side effects later on and the artificial look, so I decided to have it removed.

Getting to the point and describing my current condition, I think the progress after removal has been good. The hospital said it takes at least about 6 months to 1 year for the nose to reach its completed state, but I already feel like my old nose is starting to show. Until not long ago, because of the contraction phase, the degree of upturning of my nose wasn’t much different from before removal. The scar tissue above the nostril wings was also firm, and I was still in the middle of recovery, so the shape of my nostrils really changed day by day. Some days the nostril shape looked pointy, other days it looked a bit softer; it kept changing subtly all the time. But looking at it today, I can see my old nose shape, and compared with before removal, the nasal tip has definitely come down a bit more. As the hospital taught me, whenever it looked upturned, I put face oil on my finger and gently massaged the area above the nostril wings, and I could feel the hard tightness loosening. Maybe that had an effect...

My current nose shape is like many people’s reviews say: it looks like a slight mix of my natural nose and my surgery nose. About 80-90% of my natural nose shape is coming back. But I actually kind of like that shape lol, so personally I thought, I wish it would stop here instead of going completely back! But as time goes on, it seems to be getting closer to my natural nose shape. Somehow I feel a bit disappointed instead lol And fortunately, I don’t think the bridge was shaved down much. My bridge was never that high to begin with, so I was worried that after removing the silicone it might have been shaved down a lot and my bridge would disappear. When I press and feel the nasal bone, it doesn’t feel as smooth as when it was natural, and there is a slight feeling like it was shaved, but from the outside, I don’t think it looks bumpy or obviously shaved at all.

Anyway, overall, the progress has been good so far. I’ve also been applying Dermatix every day, and I can see the scar gradually fading.

I got a lot of hospital information and various other information from this community, so I’m leaving this review hoping it may help too! I hope everyone’s removal surgery goes safely and well.

@@@Also, I have a question for those who had removal a long time ago. I thought my nose would spread more after removal, but instead it feels slightly smaller... Could this also be one of the symptoms of the contraction phase because of scar tissue? When I compare my front-facing ID photo before removal with now, it feels like my nose has gotten slightly smaller... Will it come back? Has anyone had symptoms like mine?
