After going to hospital consultations over 2 weeks, I decided to have surgery at the place where I had my very last consultation. The hospital was clean, and everyone was kind, from the doctor and consultation manager to the front desk staff and nurses. When I go to get the stitches removed this Saturday, I’ll finally take off the tape and see it. I still can’t really tell yet, but my friends say my image has changed a lot.
Originally, you’re supposed to stop drinking and smoking starting one week before surgery, but I didn’t read everything carefully, so I drank alcohol until 3 days before the surgery ㅜ On the day of surgery, the consultation manager explained aftercare and various things, and then I had a consultation with the director. I asked them to raise it as much as possible while keeping it natural. Then they said those two things can’t both be achieved. I think this moment is important. You really need to communicate your thoughts clearly to the doctor. Anyway, I said that and told them to please do a good job, then went into surgery. They gave me an injection in my calf for drug/foreign-body reaction, connected an IV to my arm, and the nurse cleaned the inside of my nose. Then they kept applying disinfectant all over my face, over and over ㅜ It kept going into my mouth, and they disinfected up to my ears too ㅜ This was a bit hard to endure.
I guess everything was ready, because the doctor came in and said that if they couldn’t harvest enough septal cartilage, they might use mesh or costal cartilage. During the consultation, we had planned to use septal cartilage for the support, silicone for the nasal bridge, and cartilage for the nasal tip. So I asked again, and they said they would do that if there wasn’t enough, so I answered yes and fell asleep. And when I woke up, I felt a little pain. I opened my eyes slightly, and the nurse told me to close them, so I did. “Is the director here?” I asked, and they said yes, so I asked whether the surgery went well and how many millimeters they used for the support and nasal bridge. They said they put in 3.8 mm and used mesh. I thought mesh or costal cartilage was something used by people having revision surgery..... But I was on the operating table, so it wasn’t a situation where I could say anything.
After the surgery ended, I slept soundly in the recovery room because of the anesthesia, and after about an hour I went home. But seriously, they had stuffed cotton tightly into my nostrils, and it was unbearable. When I swallowed saliva, my ears felt blocked, and something like blood or nasal discharge kept going down my throat. There was some pain only on the first day, and from the next day there wasn’t any. When I slept, I had to sleep with my mouth open, so my mouth got completely dry and I kept waking up, so I couldn’t sleep well until the cotton was removed. Those two days were really miserable ㅜ I had surgery on Saturday, had the cotton removed on Monday, got an antibiotic shot on Tuesday, and this Saturday I’ll get the stitches removed. There’s still swelling, so I still can’t really tell. I’m also worried about the materials. I just got a lot of help from this community, so I’m leaving a review too.
