Before surgery, I had an underbite and protruding mouth. I had the surgery because I hated my side profile.
Right after surgery, I woke up in the recovery room, but clotted blood had blocked my nose and my mouth was tied shut, so I couldn’t breathe.
I was discharged two days later, and for 15 days I couldn’t sleep at all. When I lay down, I’d get short of breath, so to survive I kept walking around the park outside my house.
At times my nose really did get completely blocked and I could barely breathe. Honestly, I don’t know what would have happened if my parents hadn’t been there...
I went to an ENT clinic and got suctioning done, and because my mouth was tied shut I couldn’t speak, so I wrote on paper asking them to call an ambulance, and my mom called one for me instead.
Once the swelling went down, I was satisfied for 2-3 months. There was a little nasal widening, but I just ignored it. About 6 months after the surgery,
the hospital took an X-ray of my bones and told me to go upstairs, so I did.
Then a doctor I had never seen before, not the director, kept repeating, “The surgery turned out very well.”
I thought to myself that this must be the doctor who operated on me. Honestly, I was speechless.
Starting two years later, I get pain now and then at the pin sites where the bones were fixed.
I also have side effects like nasal widening, sagging cheeks, and lip asymmetry, so it’s really hard.
When I see people saying they’re going to get jaw surgery, I want to stop them no matter what.
