It has been 10 months since I had double jaw surgery for my TMJ, asymmetry, and protruding mouth. I chose the hospital after consulting at four places over the course of three years. Overall, I'm about 70% satisfied. My protruding mouth improved a lot, to the point that people thought I had nose surgery too. My jaw joint was fine, but three months ago it started clicking again and felt misaligned, so I got a muscle relaxant prescription a month ago and took it for about three days, and it improved a lot. They said that if you work too hard on the rubber bands while adjusting the bite during orthodontic treatment, that can happen, so I was also told to take it easy with the rubber bands.. And for the asymmetry, I had contouring done together with the double jaw surgery. Before surgery they said it would be impossible to make it 100% symmetrical, but the left side was asymmetric and they shaved the left side too much, so now the right side has become asymmetric ㅡㅡ I only wanted the asymmetry corrected, and my jaw was already small, so I asked them not to shave the bone as much as possible.. this is what's stressing me out.. I get stressed every time I look in the mirror.. People around me even ask if one side of my jaw is bigger and whether the swelling is still left, it's that noticeable.. But looking at the X-ray or CT, it's definitely bone. They said they'll adjust it when they remove the pins this fall. They said they shaved the right side less because that's where the pin goes, ha.. They could have just shaved the left side less ㅠㅠ Also, my facial fat has gotten thinner and my skin has sagged a bit, so my nasolabial folds are really bothering me. The widened nose is only very slight because my nose was small to begin with?
If they had corrected only the asymmetry properly and there had been no skin sagging, it would have been a 90% satisfying surgery. I really hope the pin removal goes well in the fall and the asymmetry gets fixed exactly.
