I had it done in Cheongdam-dong with a non-fixation method. Those who know will know, so I won’t answer questions about the clinic info!!
I had prominent cheekbones and a jawline too, and I also had a lot of facial fat, so my face was just kind of round overall. Even before surgery, the director emphasized several times that I probably wouldn’t see a very dramatic effect~ He said my side profile wouldn’t magically shrink, and that only the angular parts would disappear. I said okay to everything and had the surgery.
I have so much to say about everything from preparing for surgery to the surgery processㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋ but I’ll keep it moderate...
After surgery, when I sat in the recovery room, all I could think was exactly, ah... I’m screwed...ㅋㅋㅋㅋ I had the surgery believing only the reviews saying there was no pain, but once the anesthesia wore off, the area around my cheekbones started throbbing, feeling hot, and hurting. My face was wrapped like a monster with bandages tightly wound from my jaw to the top of my head~ The bandage was wrapped so tightly that my mouth wouldn’t even open 3 mm, not even enough to push a pill in. For the three days before the bandage came off, I didn’t even feel hungry. I drank one pack of soy milk a day. During that period, you really swell a lot. And besides the swelling, I especially had a bluish-black bruise around my left eye. The capillaries in my right eye burst, so it looked awful too. Going back to work within a week? No way.
For the first week right after surgery, I really couldn’t go anywhere. In the second week, I only met a few of my closest friends, and it was from the third week that I felt I looked somewhat human. The swelling was so bad that I think I received aftercare about 3 or 4 times.
Around the third week, the cheekbone swelling hangs around the area where the cheek goes down toward the jaw. Then the cheekbones and cheeks are both swollen, so the face looks like a peanut. At first, I was really anxious, wondering if this was cheek sagging. But as time passed, it went away.
At one month, the sensation on both sides felt different and I was so anxious that I got a CT scan, but the bones were firmly attached well.
But to my eyes, it’s not that noticeable. The angles definitely decreased, and when I take selfies, it looks fairly smooth, you know? But my cheekbones are still on the larger side. If you lined people up from those with no cheekbones to those with very prominent cheekbones, I think I’d still be around the 60-70% rangeㅋㅋㅋㅋ ㅜㅜ Well, nothing can be done about that.
Up to here is the kind of review you commonly see. What I personally felt after surgery was!! ㅠㅠ The most important thing is...
1 Physical activity becomes restricted. First of all, you can’t run. If I put my foot down even a little strongly? I kept feeling like the area around my cheekbones was rattling and dropping downward!! Since I was walking around with my cheekbones broken, I felt anxious, my body stayed very tense, and my field of vision narrowed. I couldn’t drive, and I was even scared when the bus jolted.
2 Your gums get weaker!! I had no idea about this kind of side effect. My teeth are really completely healthy. I’ve never even had a cavity before... But now when I get tired, my gums are the first to feel lifted and irritated. Even now, when I press on my left and right molars, the sensation is different. The clinic just keeps repeating that the teeth and cheekbones are far apart, so it has absolutely nothing to do with the surgery. I guess that’s probably true. The dentist also said there wasn’t any particular problem, but honestly, I still feel anxious for some reason~ For 2 months after surgery, I couldn’t open my mouth wide, so I couldn’t brush my teeth properly and dental treatment was impossible too, so I went through a lot emotionally, worrying it might be something serious.
3 When it’s cold... it aches from the cold... Maybe because it’s where the bone was broken... Like how older adults’ knees ache in the cold, if cold wind hits my face for a long time, it aches exactly along the osteotomy lineㅋㅋㅋㅋ What is this? It doesn’t interfere with daily life, but... I don’t know... whether it’ll improve with time...
4 The recovery period is at least 1 month. Whether other people took 3 days or 1 week, if my recovery is slow, then it’s slow. Don’t listen only to the clinic or other people, and set aside as much time as possible!! Even at one month, my facial expressions and pronunciation were awkward. Even if people don’t say it, they all know you had something done to your face!! Unless you want rumors to spread.
I find it interesting that in this community, it seems like many people think of facial contouring surgery as no big deal. When I look back on it, for me it was a complete major surgery. After all, you’re breaking facial bones, right?
Even though I tried to shorten it, it’s really long... I couldn’t tell other people, so I had written everything down alone to post a review laterㅜㅜㅋㅋㅋㅋ If you have any questions, please leave a comment. I’ll answer!!
