Review 7 years after finishing orthodontic treatment

When I was young, I received non-extraction orthodontic treatment from a dentist in Gangnam who was close to my parents. Because my parents completely trusted that doctor, I think they had me do it without any doubt. At the time, I was young, and I thought of it as "treatment," so I did it without thinking much. Looking back now, back then I only had about two slightly crooked teeth and everything else was normal, so I think it was done purely for "cosmetic" purposes.

Of course, the 2 years of orthodontic treatment were hell, but when I was young, I thought of it as "treatment," so I think I endured it well. But now that I have studied it, I realized that a lot of side effects developed after orthodontic treatment. Prominent cheekbones due to hollowing of the temples and cheeks (even 7 years after finishing orthodontics, it did not come back, so I ultimately went through with cheekbone surgery; the root of all misfortune), the upper lip rolling inward and the philtrum looking longer as the upper teeth moved inward (it actually became longer, and from the front, the upper lip is not visible at all, making the face look extremely long), nasolabial folds forming, slight cheek sagging due to changes in the oral structure, a smaller mouth, a pinched mouth shape, temporomandibular joint disorder, frequent tartar buildup due to the lingual retainer, teeth becoming weak and sometimes feeling loose, visible tooth roots, and so on. There are really many side effects.

In the end, the reason I ended up getting cheekbone surgery was orthodontic treatment. Doctors say orthodontic treatment has nothing to do with nasolabial folds, cheek sagging, cheekbone prominence, and so on. But many people complain of the same common side effects as me after getting orthodontic treatment. No matter how much doctors lie, the actual data proves it. Also, a conscientious dentist has exposed the unethical overtreatment practices of dentistry in our country, so dentists' words cannot be fully trusted.

Ultimately, the fundamental reason I ended up getting cheekbone surgery started with orthodontic treatment. The answer is to just leave the human face alone. Even with malocclusion or whatever, you can live just fine. My mom has an open bite, so her front teeth do not even touch each other, but she lives just fine. Is there anyone who does not have even 0.0001 of malocclusion? I hope people do not fall for the plausible nonsense called malocclusion and get it done. Even people who had orthodontic treatment because their malocclusion was severe often want to go back to how they looked before because their face changed terribly. Please, just live with the face you were born with.
