Intro <proof pic that this was the surgery done today...> Today I’m the one who had surgery and came back. Autologous costal cartilage is really, really painful at first.ㅠㅠ I’ll write in a casual style so I can speak comfortably. First, I decided after about 3 years of thinking and then had the surgery.
I’ll try to lay out day 1... I can barely lie down to write this with my younger brother helping me...ㅋㅋㅋ
First, I changed into a surgical gown, washed up, did photo taking, consultation with the coordinator (contract and instructions), final surgeon consultation (design and desired shape consultation), then waited and went to surgery. Even when I was called from the OR, I wasn’t really nervous.
Because it was autologous costal cartilage surgery, after taking off my top and lying down, from below they said they were going to insert an injection needle, and from above they said they were going to remove nasal hair, I had absolutely no sense left in my mind.ㅠ
And with that red medicine in that spray bottle... you know, I sprayed it heavily on my upper body and wiped with red-medicine gauze, It was so cold my pulse rose...ㅋㅋㅋㄱㄲ It felt like I had become a piece of meat... Like I had lost something as a human being.ㅋㅋㅠㅠ They disinfected my whole torso and also my face, but disinfecting around my eyes and inside my nose was very painful.ㅠㅠ Medicine went into my eyes and stung quite a lot, cleaning inside the nose felt like a harsh COVID test.
They had my hair fixed so not even a single strand moved, but because my hair was quite long, they seemed to have a hard time.
Anyway, then the surgeon came and surgery started right away.
There are some memories of someone helping me up here and there, when I cleared my mind and opened my eyes, I was already in bed.ㅎㅎㅎ
It seemed to take about 32 minutes to become fully aware.
Wow, the area where the autologous costal cartilage was done is really, really painful. First, I can’t get up or lie down from the bed by myself. (I can’t, but I guess I have to practice doing this alone even though it’s very painful.)
When I woke up, my nose hurt, but now it doesn’t hurt at all.
I had cartilage harvested from my right rib, and because of that, when I use my right arm even a little, my abdomen at the donor site hurts a lot.ㅠㅠ They also used ear cartilage, but that did not hurt.
I thought maybe no attendant was needed, but I brought family just in case. For autologous costal cartilage surgery, it seems you need a helper 100%.
I came home by bus and the pain got worse.ㅠㅠ
Oh, and when I laugh, my abdomen hurts badly.ㅋㅋㅋㅋㅠㅠ My brother said he would help me lie down in a make-believe way, but it really hurt.
Other uncomfortable issues are:
Eating is really hard...ㅠㅠ It’s awkward because of the dressing, and swallowing is like not smooth... maybe hard to swallow..?ㅠㅠㅠ Every time I swallow, it feels like something is stuck near my nose.
They said they’ll remove the cotton on day 5, but I want it removed quickly.ㅠㅠ
Tomorrow I go for disinfection and an antibiotic injection, and it’s day 2 so I’m even more worried... they said it will hurt even more.ㅠㅠ
Let’s all take care of our recovery well and get a beautiful nose!!!
